Hyles-Anderson College / John R Rice

In my opinion, John R. Rice was probably one of the most balanced preachers that I know.

Also, seems like he was responsible for much of the church growth of the 70's... I've often wondered if it was coincidental that he died in 1980, which is when the IFB movement seems to have begun to decline.

He is back in West Virginia I believe.  Him and his wife divorced and I think he remarried.

wasn't he from VA?

I have no ax to grind with Paul Chappell. If he decided to return to the old fashion fundamentalism, which we’ve been fighting for decades, I would embrace him and applaud him. I can think of nothing that would please me more than to be able to define Paul Chappell as an old-fashioned, rock-ribbed, independent, fundamental, Baptist preacher. Unfortunately I don’t see that as a possibility at this point

Very interesting... Scott Gray was working for Jack Schaap after leaving Tony Hutson when BG decided it was time to "speak out about him..."
His son Scott has been fellowshipping with and preaching for Chapell lately... coincidence?

does anybody know what happened to him / where he is?

It's like he fell off the face of the earth, after Dr Hyles died...

For those who new Mike, he passed away in his sleep on Sunday morning Feb. 17.

He had recently had heart surgery, and had gone home.  His brother went to wake him on Sunday morning, and he had passed.

Church founder's daughter: There may be more Jack Schaap abuse victims

The daughter of the founder of First Baptist Church of Hammond, a northwestern Indiana megachurch, apologized for a former pastor's sexual relationship with an underage church girl he was counseling.

The Times of Munster reported Tuesday that Linda Murphrey issued statements last week and Monday for not speaking out about what she called abuses at First Baptist Church of Hammond.

Murphrey's brother-in-law, former Pastor Jack Schaap, was sentenced to 12 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

The 55-year-old Schaap said he had three sexual encounters with a parish girl, starting the week before she turned 17.

Murphrey says she wishes she could erase the girl's pain and she believes there are other victims. Her full open letter is posted on her website,,

As of now, it appears there were no other victims... Unless you count a married woman who claims JS hit on her... (Then admits she cheated on her husband, and he on her to get back at her, who then wrote a book about how she is now healed, and then divorced...)
