Throughout this country there are countless "preachers" standing in the pulpits of America claiming....

"God gave me" this to share with you.

Why don't we point out the obvious. The message isn't God gave me, the message is God gave US. God HAS GIVEN US.

Which brings me to a few points I've made in other threads recently. What will never change among IFBs and big "B" baptists is this very practice. In Reformed circles, you hardly ever anything like this. The reason you don't is because they're accustom to just declaring the Scriptures. They don't try to "sell" their message with "God gave me"... such and such. Their message is the message of old. Its doesn't require Divine Intervention at every turn to declare the Scriptures.

Recently, I've witnessed several "preachers' admit just how mistaken they've been for DECADES about certain things. What they didn't retract is the fact they sold those things in the "name of God". In the name of "God gave me".

One of the greatest changes that needs to take place in American pulpits is the acknowledgement that the man standing there is nothing more than a fellow believer in Christ. He is often right and he is often wrong. He has no authority to dictate anything in your lives. You already have a Master and He is so much better than them.

Did God give this to Treasure or is this just his opinion?

When someone says, "God gave me......." many times what they are really saying is that no one can argue or disagree with this. I have had God give me quite a bit but 99.9% of the time it is in the study of the scriptures. I have had God convict me and direct me - but even then we must be absolutely sure they line up with the Bible. Sola Scriptura is always the best way.

When someone says "God gave me" something...... they are trying to sell their words as being equal with God's Word. We know that is not true.

The Word of God was given to mankind. The Word is sharper than any two edged sword. Cutting. Piercing man's hearts. It is food for the very fabric of our being. God has already given US... His Word. He didn't give it just to you to share it. It wasn't a new revelation.

1. What authority do you claim in your calling?
2. Have you ever claimed that God gave you something and it turned out that something was wrong?
3. Did you admit it publicly?
4. Why isn't it better to say the "Scriptures say"?

In church this past Sunday in a series on the Ten Commandments, the pastor used this very thing as one of the ways we can break the third commandment, by saying ”God gave me...” or “God told me...”.

Those who can, do.
Those who can't criticize...or correct... those who can on the internet.

Haymaaan....

You liked it so much that you posted it twice.

I know Edwards well. I've written about him extensively.

He was a racist slave owner. He also had some very unappealing beliefs concerning American Indians. I doubt you know this.

Sure. He felt special about what he believed he received. I imagine you do as well.

Yeah, well, you'd be wrong about that, too.

But by all means, poison the well some more, SJW soy boy.

What part am I wrong about?
The part where you said I didn't know about Jonathan Edwards having slaves, etc.

Believe it or not, some people other than yourself have read a book.

Of course, the rest of us remember reading them and don't forget about it 45 minutes later.

I wrote extensively about him over 30 years ago. I still remember. Hey, you can be wrong about something yourself.

You posted his work as if I should consider it. I have. I've considered it many times. I see no reason to entertain such lies.
