Why do you believe that?I think more members left FBC in the early 90's because of DH than left in '89 because of the Nishchick allegations against Bro Hyles
I mean DH had been gone from the church more than a half dozen years.

And then there are the defenders....... oh brotherThere is enough on this forum about dh that would sink a ship. dh is a deceiver and evil. Do your search here on this forum get your coffee
And I do count that as a positive. It is an act of respect to the instrumentalist and a part of the worship in giving. To this day I am terrified to talk while the offeratory is being played. Every so often Hyles would skin somebody for doing that.
That is a fact. However, I wondered about what Toby said about more people leaving FBC over DH than the Nischick issues, because DH's issues did not come to light until after he had been gone from the church for several years. I concede that there is much evidence that his problems took root in his Hammond years, but seems to me it was primarily the Texas people who dealt with it in the mid-eighties. Why would so many leave FBC at that time? There is enough on this forum about dh that would sink a ship. dh is a deceiver and evil. Do your search here on this forum get your coffee
He was capable and dynamic. Without question JH intended for DH to succeed him one day as pastor. Then we all learned in due time that DH had a bunch of moral problems that disqualified him from the ministry. It is a tragedy that repeats itself many times over in church lore. When I arrived at HAC in '81 there were plenty of people disappointed DH was no longer there. I had never heard of him.
Reminds me of a hip-hop star and his entourage, maybe worried that a rapper from a rival label that he dissed was going to shoot him.
Maybe he thought the ghost of J. Frank Norris was going to rise up and pop a cap in him.
You know, Sherry, if we or anyone who attended with us in those days, were paying attention, we learned to keep our eyes on our all faithful God, and He alone, as the author and finisher of our faith. Our dependence on human flesh will fail us every time.do a search on this forum about dh he was involved with women, murder , etc. He preached on be not deceived he is a master at deceiving others.............
Well said I thank God that I never was involved ...I believe people were afraid to say anything of fear of losing job etc.You know, Sherry, if we or anyone who attended with us in those days, were paying attention, we learned to keep our eyes on our all faithful God, and He alone, as the author and finisher of our faith. Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised!
I have so very little of ANYTHING from fifty years ago. I guess I consider that both a blessing and a curse. I did have some letter that my mother wrote me while at HAC (back in the dark ages of letter writingView attachment 7529Notes to myself the first few weeks of college - 1981. Little did I know that I really wouldn't have to worry about which clothes go in the laundry with my pink shirt.
I'd forgotten the Bible selling campaign. As I recall, Auclair gave lessons on how to sell them door to door. Was that around the time the college thought it would have to close due to financial concerns? I got a phone call during Christmas break, I think, letting me know that the school was still open.I have so very little of ANYTHING from fifty years ago. I just remembered that (I think) I do have one of those HAC bibles that we sold to raise funds in '76. But I would gladly trade it to get my mother's letters back.
Yep, that's the one. I think I have one stored somewhere. You're right about the photos inside. Hyles, Auclair, Vinyard, Helton, Anderson...they are all dead now. I remember the large Bibles because my parents bought one. Lots of photos in the middle of the school.
I just saw that you can still have one in fine condition - eBay, for $22.I'd forgotten the Bible selling campaign. As I recall, Auclair gave lessons on how to sell them door to door. I'm still having a hard time processing that in my mind. Do I take into consideration the inflation factor in figuring if that's a deal or not.I just saw that you can still have one in fine condition - eBay, for $22.![]()
