Anyone following the latest on Noah's Ark?

Excellent point! hadn't thought of that but Gen 9 implies that they lived in tents after the flood.
But presumably not permanently (Gen.9 also implies it took place shortly after emerging from the ark), and there are other things to build than houses.

What I find interesting is the fact that every school of thought, whether secular, pagan, anti-christian, or Christian, has a theory of some catastrophe causing a mass word wide extinction event.

He is drawing from old, liberal commentaries (eg ICC) which favor the JEDP theories.

I read a wide range of commentaries, some liberal, some conservative. Why is it unwise to see what both sides have to say?

By the way, if you agree that it couldn't have been possible for Moses to record his own death, then Genesis had to have at least one additional author.

When I showed him from the biblical text that 40 days is as literal as 150 days by ADDING 110, he is avoiding.

I suppose if I was avoiding the issue (which I'm not) then I that would be very much like how someone avoids holding their moderators accountable for banning new users indiscriminately.

It should go without saying that 40 out of number 150 should automatically be understood as an idiom.

UNLESS you are attempting to remove the reality of an actual Noahic worldwide flood.

I only said that it could be understood as a catastrophic flood during what was the KNOWN world at the time. I don't see how that interpretation creates any conflict in Scripture.

Specifically, it's your anti-intellectual tendency to dismiss challenging questions with sarcasm.

There are many places in that Bible that have to be understood as allegories. How many times in the book of Revelations do we have to do this? Who made you the pope and decided that it can only be in places that have your approval?

Are you saying you don’t believe Jonah was literally swallowed by a fish and spit back out?

I don't believe that I'm required to believe it in a literal sense.

Even at the end of Jonah, God said that he relented of the destruction He planned on Nineveh. Most conservative theologians will say that this should be understood as anthropomorphic language since it goes against God's nature to alter His plan based on new information. That's called Open Theism and has been declared as heresy centuries ago.

Why wouldn't I be allowed to understand the passage about the fish anthropomorphically as well?

How do you explain the fossil record found at the Grand Canyon?

I don't.

I'm merely pointing out that everyone has a theory or set of theories that have common connections whether they want to admit it or not.

Interesting. Do you believe Jesus literally rose bodily from the grave?

Yes, because I'm required to. Paul said that if He didn't, then our faith would be in vain. That's not even in the same category.

I wasn't asking about Revelation nor any other "many places." I was asking about Noah's ark.

If it's allegorical, what's it an allegory of? Interpret for us, please.

Do you believe the creation story is allegorical? Were the 6 days of creation 24 hour days?

TRIPLE Yikes! At least we know where you are coming from. You are regurgitating old German liberal theology. It is not a balanced position. You came out of fundamentalism and now swung like a pendulum to JEDP theories. The is a pendulum swing, not a balanced swing.

You claim that the "40 days and 40 nights" are an allegory demanded by an idiom "an extended period of time" but when in the very next verse in Genesis 7, the 40 days and 40 nights are part of the 150 days which you claim are literal.

This is just nonsense.

It was a judgment on humanity. How is that allegory?

That's my point! Whether you take it literally or figuratively, the conclusion that we come to is exactly the same!

Do you not know what a finger of speech is??

Well excuuuuuuuse me, princess, but I'll have you know that as soon as I left fundamentalism I joined a conservative Calvary Chapel where I have been ever since. And you know what the great thing about Calvary Chapel is? We are encouraged to study our Bibles for ourselves and have the liberty to come to our own conclusions as long as it doesn't conflict with core doctrine.

<cue the dramatic music, lol>

@abcaines, you might want to take this one. 😁

LOL!!! You aren't studying the Bible for yourself. You are regurgitating ICC, German liberalism of the 1800s.
You pretended to know Hebrew and you have an interlinear.
You need to be disciplined!!! Take me to your leaders!! ;)

I don’t follow your rationale. The basis of your faith is the revelation of God in His word. Jesus used the Jonah story to illustrate the truth of His own real death and resurrection. How would pointing to an allegory strengthen His claim of how He would die?
