When did "going to the theater" become wrong?

I knew about the perception Shakespeare's contemporaries held of him, but I did not make that connection to our more modern times. I stand corrected. Didn't Spurgeon disagree with Joseph Parker about attending the theater?

When did "going to the theater" become wrong?

The old-time fundamentalist preachers were not against movie theaters. They were against movies. But, as you have correctly pointed out, there was not a means to watch movies anywhere other than at a theater, hence the preaching against the theater. Then VCR/DVD/BlueRay/Netflix/YouTube, etc...

    "Man worship" confession time!

The Eric Mataxas Biography is the one I just got. I got it in a bundle with The Cost of Discipleship for $20 from Christianbook.com. I'm looking forward to digging into them both after I finish up what I'm reading right now. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    "Man worship" confession time!

I've never read anything about or by him. I'll have to let you know later. I've got two other books to finish before I start this one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    "Man worship" confession time!

I do think it's important to look up to faithful men who follow Christ for inspiration and guidance. Reading good biographies is one way to do that. I just got a new biography of Detrich Bonhoeffer today! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have a man-crush on John MacArthur. I recently ran a half-marathon, and I listened to JMac sermons the whole race on my iPhone Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Another New IFB

For me, the problem with the #oldpaths (or whatever) IFB movement has been (1) Unbiblical preaching (2) Standards (personal applications of Scripture) elevated above actual Bible doctrine (3) Following men rather than Christ and Scripture. Point #3 is best illustrated to me every time I hear...

I forgot that Fugate hung out with Greg Neal . . . Woof! How anybody could still go to Greg Neal's church after watching that video he made is beyond me. I guess Teis is right in pointing out that IFBs since 1980 have been separating over the wrong issues. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Another New IFB

What does my family have to do with this? Should I hold a discussion during family devotions with my 3, 5, and 7 year old children about my discomfort with Jeff Fugate's associations? Should I analyze Hamblin's #greatmen sermon with my 3 year-old son while he plays cars? Should I interrupt my 7...

That's true to a certain extent. His association with certain men who preach nonsense and twist the Scriptures to do so bothers me. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Another New IFB

I went to college with Ryan, and I pastor a church about an hour away from him. He didn't see the point in spending the time required to continue arguments on this site. The HAC forum is always fun and, for the most part, courteous, but some of the other forums on this site aren't worth...

    Bible Version Survey

    1) KJV (Last year I read through a Chronological NKJV, but I've returned to the old KJV.) 2) KJV - with reference/comparison with the NIV, ESV, NKJV, and NASB                           (I really like reading the NIV to grasp the overall flow of my text.) 3) KJV (I'm the pastor)
