The is a group of people in my area who are busy trying to stop the DEI/CRT/Trans promoting forces in the local schools. They identify as Christians wanting to preserve traditional morality. I have a deep sympathy for their position but find myself unable to partner with them mainly due to the rhetorical methods that they have chosen.

One easy example, library books. Over the last several month there has been a fight over some titles available in the high school library. The leader of the group has repeatedly called the school board members, administration and the library staff pedophiles and groomers. This in writing and in person at board meetings.

Such invective wouldn't be appropriate against bureaucrats and administrators, who are a degree or two removed from the classroom.

But there are teachers in the classrooms who obviously get their jollies by advertising their sexuality to children, rejoicing when a child declares herself "nonbinary" or whatever, and trying to break down trust between children and their parents. There's a controversy brewing in Canada because the premier of Alberta wants to make it illegal to (among other things) hide a student's use of a different name or gendered pronouns from her parents. The progressives are flipping out.

So are there some instances where "groomer" seems entirely appropriate? You bet.

Also, many of those titles are basically pornographic. One of them is a graphic novel titled Gender Queer. The media won't show illustrations from it without pixellating them.

As with too many words, groomer apparently has a new definition. For those of us with family members who were actually groomed by actual pedophiles and molested/raped by same said it is over the top to accuse school staff of that crime. World view indoctrination? Absolutely. Actively seeking to have sexual relations with a student? YOu had better get some proof before you throw that grenade.

If the dissenting parents can be called terrorists, among other vile things, and investigated as such, it seems a small thing that the bureaucrats responsible for the enablement of the indoctrination and alienation, i.e. grooming, of their children to be labelled accordingly.

And you use the word the same way that I objected to above.

That is a great recipe for communication.

An essential ingredient for communication is listening. I can assure you that the "groomers" and their accomplices are are not interested in listening regardless of how diplomatically their perversions are addressed. I'm not advocating being antagonistic but at some point, bovine fecal matter must be called out for what it is.

These meetings need to be recorded and posted on YouTube for virality.

Parents must be armed with facts. Then when proof is made, call it what it is without losing one's temper.

I'm all in favor of video evidence. Both sides in our little part of the war claim horrific things about the other side but neither can pony up any actual proof.

Would to God that would be the approach but everyone has an agenda which must be pushed without facts and reason interfering.

Note too, that shooting video becomes a legal quagmire when the woke are setting the rules.

I don't heed perfidious objections. I find it interesting that you agonize more over the dubious lapses in grace and rectitude on the part of the victims than you do over their victimization.

I don't think you're being genuine.

As with too many words, groomer apparently has a new definition.

As happens with all words. "Grooming" used to mean mentoring someone to prepare them for leadership. The idea of sexual grooming is more recent.

This generation of "groomers" (and I agree that the word is overused and frequently misused) seems more like they're trying to indoctrinate them into a cult--which doesn't seem far from the truth sometimes, honestly--than exploitng them for sexual purposes.

FWIW the first time I heard it used in the context of sexual abuse was when my wife was in counseling. Her counselor was very specific and singular with its application. The abuse was preceded by grooming done by a groomer. To say that a school board member is a groomer because of the availability of a book in the library is definitely a misuse.

I’m going to need for you to identify your “victims”. And the “lapses in grace” are intentional and planned. They are not a case of someone losing control in an emotional moment.

They are grooming if they knowingly allow the book to remain.
Grooming who? The school board is going to sexually abuse the entire student body? Did you read my working definition based on a professional psychologists explanation? What we have dealt with in forty years of marriage is way more than a dirty book on a library shelf. From my perspective using it in that way trivializes it to the point where real “groomers” are lost in the hyperbolic fog.

I have noticed that no one has taken up the mantle to defend the use of pedophile in the same context and often in the same sentence.
