These people are jumping off the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia. I was there for Bridge Day in 1997. It was fantastic.
It looked like this when I went.

One of my friends from Michigan came and was what they call a jumpmaster. They stand there and check equipment and make sure people are safe. It's only 876 feet to the ground. You coun t to 3, pull your chute and if it doesn't open, too bad, you hit the ground in about 8-9 seconds. there is no time for a reserve chute. We saw one smart aleck wait till he was about 100 ft from the ground to pull his. They banned him for life from ever coming back.
