For what it’s worth, I’ve always felt that the Antichrist will be a man who most Christians publicly endorse as a good moral man.

MANY Christians still believe he is. And when they squirm about saying that, they’ll substitute his policies instead. I’ve read it right here on this forum hundreds of times. After that, it’s the excuse of his SC picks being worth it all.

That’s true, but I’d be concerned if a true Christian can/will be capable of getting fooled by the Antichrist. In fact, I don’t believe a person is truly saved if they don’t discern the evil of the true Antichrist. That doesn’t mean Trump is, but whoever it is, I don’t think a person can possess the Holy Spirit and follow the second in command to Satan.
 
The apostasy must happen first before the antichrist man of sin is revealed. I'm really not thinking about who that is. I remember when it was suggested through gematria that Reagan may be the antichrist. I think next to the day/hour when Jesus is coming, it's not something we should be concerned about. What did Jesus tell us in Acts 1? You shall be witnesses.

Probably for the same reason that you might slip a cuss word in front of your grandaddy, but you wouldn’t dare in front of your grandma.
