What about all of the missionary families that were with Tom in WHBC's African compound? Did they not see what was going on? Are any of them still under Tom's leadership?

Ha!! Yes, some are still under the Vineyard realm of influence and you would never get a peep out of them as to the goings on of Tommy Boy over in Africa.  Others have distanced themselves, but fear the Vineyard regime and what they can do to individuals, especially ones that are vulnerable and reliant upon support from the Vineyard/Hyles/Schaap line of churches.

The good ol boy system is powerful!!!

But pictures are around of what happens to a man who gets the nationals upset!!  And not upset for preaching the truth of the Gospel either.

So what happened in Africa?

Well those of us who remember immediately prior to Tom being "called" back from the mission field by daddy.  We were bombarded with 5 or 6 pictures of Tom's head smashed in by the butt of a gun by "Muslims" in Africa.  They were sent out everywhere by way of email and plastered up all over the walls of WHBC.  I am sure you remember as a kid that happening, JustABigKid.

The story from leadership was they were being robbed and Tom valiantly fought them but lost and nearly died from the beating.  The pictures did look very painful I might add.

It was not long after that another story came out that said Tom was messing around with the native women and a group of upset daddies/husbands paid him a visit.

Needless to say the Vineyard war machine has done a pretty good job of putting down that story over the years.

But if it was just a robbery why did he leave the field shortly thereafter never to return.  Oh yes, that’s right, the gifts and callings of God are without repentance for everyone but a Vineyard.

My bad.

I was in a church that supported both Tom and Paul.  I remember being told about this incident and the pictures as well.

Naturally, we never heard any of this.

I think the story we were told is that Melissa was afraid to stay on the field with such dangerous thugs, or maybe they had youngish kids at the time for whom she was afraid (did they?).  Something like that.  Not sure of the timeline, but perhaps JAV was retiring, and given all that was going on with Tom, he called him back to take over. This may or may not fit the actual timeline.

This is a view from an outsider, who was not in on the various drama swirling around this family.

They did have young kids back then. I am not sure if his wife was afraid, (it would be natural if she was). Either way it would be no excuse for him to come off the mission field for those two reasons according to the Vineyards with other missionaries.

There have been other missionaries that have been beating almost to death and thrown alongside the road with their 6 year old boy, robbed and left to die. He was not allowed to come back from the field, another missionary was recieving death threats, possible imprisonment he was just told the story of the Apostle Paul how he was persecuted and jailed but had to stay on the field. His wife was afriad, he had young kids, his life was in danger and he wasn't doing anything wrong.

But for Tommy Boy he was allowed becasue the Vineyard's and their god have an understanding that they are anointed so they don't have to go by the same rules as everyone else. I know a former staff member that was fired for a day and then rehired for asking the question about the callings of God being without repentance and suggesting Tommy Boy should still be on the field and not at WHBC.

Right on the money TruthBearer.

Also, TruthBearer said, "They did have young kids back then. I am not sure if his wife was afraid, (it would be natural if she was)."

I personally think she was afraid for her and her kids lives bacasue of what her hubby had done to bring on the beating.  She was also afraid they would come back and finish the job in my opinion.

Therefore, in my opinion, the tradeoff for her silence on the truth of the situation was to come back to the safety of Oklahoma where convientiently JAV had just been through his sexual misconduct situation and was turning the reigns over to Bro Porter.  Give that some time to fail and bingo Tom is now pastor of WHBC.

Now isn't that special?

If my memory serves me correctly, there was a young missionary couple serving right there in the Ivory Coast at the Vineyard compound who had complications with a pregnancy and were not allowed to come home. It seems that our church helped fly the young lady's mother over there.

Such double standards sicken me.
