My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

I remember the day Dr. Rice died. If my memory serves me well (which is doubtful) I believe it was December 1980, so 45 years ago. I wonder how he would feel about the Sword if he returned to earth today?

    Mr Godfrey prayer request

As the decades moved on since I last knew George Godfrey, I began to believe he was a little off kilter. That said, I believe he was a true believer who wanted to serve the Lord. I admire that.

    Merry Christmas!

Things have been very quiet of this board for some time, but I hope that everyone is healthy and that you have a wonderful holiday season as we take time to be thankful for the coming of the Savior to earth. I wish He would return today! Merry Christmas to all!

    ACA premium’s increasing.

Let's not be cute. Here is how they all voted on the repeal. Alexander (R-TN), Yea Baldwin (D-WI), Nay Barrasso (R-WY), Yea Bennet (D-CO), Nay Blumenthal (D-CT), Nay Blunt (R-MO), Yea Booker (D-NJ), Nay Boozman (R-AR), Yea Brown (D-OH), Nay Burr (R-NC), Yea Cantwell (D-WA), Nay Capito (R-WV)...

Robert Morris to serve 6 months in jail.

When you consider that a prominent pastor in Hammond, IN did over a decade in federal lockup for consorting with a 16 year-old, it appears the guy got off light.

    ACA premium’s increasing.

The naming of certain legislation has become laughable to the point that whatever it is named you can believe it is the opposite...like the Inflation Reduction Act or the Affordable Healthcare Act. It's just a name to make garbage sound so much more palatable to the low information public.

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

I guess the best parts of life are those when your heart is so momentarily happy that you think you can't control what wells from within. One of those for me was when on January 8, 2018, Tua Tagovailoa hit on a 43 yard td pass to Davanta Smith to win a national championship in overtime. I...

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

That was the rule fifty years ago, as well. I did my year on the blind bus. It was probably the most rewarding aspect of my time there. Did the rule change, requiring bus ministry the entire time in the college? I did not go into the ministry after leaving HAC. While we were there, we were...

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

A lot has changed in the past decades. I think some of it, in this respect, for the good.

I don't disagree with your statement. In fact, I believe that the founding of the college was one of three watersheds that led to the downfall of his ministry. When he realized he could recruit an entire army of students to come to his church and work their tails off, everything "normal" about a...

    Cracker Barrel

I guess I'm a fan of Cracker Barrel. I live in the south and through the years have probably eaten there a hundred times. The food is ok. You're right, IF YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO in a given locale, there is likely a better fare elsewhere. But the problem with traveling by auto somewhere out of your...

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

I was thinking this morning on the beginning of the school year. I remember my first fall in Hammond, 1976. I remember well when Bro. Hyles kicked off the Fall Program. The theme was "Praise the Lord." Everybody got bumper stickers. We sang "Praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice" every...

    Mrs. Hyles and the kids

You may have heard it set forth as the role of the deacon board: "Lord, if you'll keep him humble, we'll keep him poor."

    Mrs. Hyles and the kids

I know this -- self publishing books is a very profitable arrangement, IF you have a solid base of readers/buyers, and Jack Hyles most definitely did. This is how he was able at Pastor's schools to tell everyone there, "You can have any two books of mine for five dollars, just raise your hand."...

BC, what years were you there?

    Mrs. Hyles and the kids

Cindy's husband is a locksmith. I am pretty certain that early on in their marriage (which is 3-4 years long) she was a receptionist at an urgent care office. I hope she is recovering. There is no way that she could have been prepared to live the life she now lives 15 years ago. Can you...

Toby Weaver Passed Away on the Evening of August 13

While I did not know him so well back in the late 70s and early 80s, I liked him a lot. I thought he was much more authentic than most there. I actually exchanged a few text messages with him last month on his 79th birthday. He was always kind and encouraging. I tuned into the livestream of...

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

Sherry, legend has it that DH was "doing trash" as early as the early 70's. Looking back, I can't believe how terribly JH managed him. I was thinking yesterday, what if HAC had started five years later? It probably would have meant that DH would have gone to Tenn Temple like his older sister. My...

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

I suppose that was the rule in the late seventies, when I went -- probably no card games as well, but frankly, I don't recall ever playing any such games, not because we were too spiritual but because we didn't have the time. About the most risky conduct I did was keep my Elvis cassettes in my...

My Memories of and Musings on HAC / FBCH

I agree that I have heard bits and pieces of what TT wrote about with regard to DH coming back to the Hammond area for awhile. I hope his facts are good. I wasn't there and like BCH, I did not know that DH had played a role in the stuff that went on in 1990.
