    "Think on these things"

Precisely. I am so disgusted by people who try to manipulate others, and politicians do it continually. Under the banner of "conservatives" we evangelicals/funamentalists are so easily made into "useful idiots". I am disgusted in this moment by the concept found within the thread title...

    Rabid Extremists

Seriously not looking for a fight, but do you think that he actually meant he loved the rioters? My point is that he has often spoke in clumsy language, not all that dissimilar to GW Bush. Thinking he was including those riotous thugs in his "I love you" is analogous to saying he supported...

Anybody else following the Ravi Zacharias debacle?

On your question #4 I asked a similar question, not in order to dismiss her claims, but rather to understand how a person who had a career in law enforcement could stand by in the shadows for decades without saying anything until after his passing. Doesn't make sense. Regarding #5 I feel...

    "Think on these things"

First let me say that I am not attempting to start a politically divisive conversation here. What I am about to say could be applied equally in a bipartisan fashion. In Nancy Pelosi's efforts before the impeachment committee hearing today she first quoted Abraham Lincoln in efforts to defend...

Anybody else following the Ravi Zacharias debacle?

Agreed, at least agreed in the sense of guarding against ever putting undue or idolatrous trust in ANY human. Interestingly and ironically in Zacharias' case his own adult daughter is head of a ministry that helps women/people who were sexually abused and/or trafficked.

I don't disagree that he had groupies. What I am troubled about is that the gospel will be hindered in very hostile areas that they are accustomed to going into.

    Rabid Extremists

No I don't agree with the trespassing rioters. They should be held accountable under the full impact of the law. Every conservative I personally know has said the same.

Anybody else following the Ravi Zacharias debacle?

I actually did listen to him daily, and also am not sure if I could continue on listening now. The good news is that the transition to other featured speakers/apologists had already begun more than a year ago. There is much doubt If they will continue on as a ministry since many media outlets...

Anybody else following the Ravi Zacharias debacle?

Thanks for the link. I am still absorbing and assessing things, in the very early stages. The Roys blog gave good background to the claim of the coerced abortion. My question, given the young ladies testimony about her eventual choice of vocations (law enforcement), why she didn't confront...

Jeff Owens has a new church!

I am not defending any of the easy believism that is promoted, nor the cover-ups that is alleged with my reply so please don't think that I am stating that you should cover up irregularities and proprieties or sin by what I'm about to say. I'm only giving another perspective for consideration...

    Is IFB a cult?

A lot of good thoughts here on both sides of the issue. I'm a firm believer that one central role of the church is for accountability. Without getting wordy, accountability is a two-way street. When somebody leaves a church, which is a family, there ought to be an understanding that is clearly...

The following is a link to RZIM ministries admission of guilt that Ravi Zacharias had inappropriate sexual conduct... https://www.christianitytoday.com/news/2020/december/rzim-evidence-confirms-ravi-zacharias-sexual-misconduct.html This saddens me. He died in May of 2019, having gone to his...

Honorary doctorates, Pickle U, and Jill Biden

It's been several decades since I have been in the academic environment, but I remember calling my professors "Dr so and so" when addressing them. I also work in a scientific environment where there are a few earned phds and none of those folks go by the title of doctor. Just before I came into...

Honorary doctorates, Pickle U, and Jill Biden

Madame First Lady—Mrs. Biden—Jill—kiddo: a bit of advice on what may seem like a small but I think is a not unimportant matter. Any chance you might drop the “Dr.” before your name? “Dr. Jill Biden” sounds and feels fraudulent, not to say a touch comic. Your degree is, I believe, an Ed.D., a...

    Demographic Decline of IFB Congregations

I think you add a great point to the conversation. On a secular level you see this portrayed often within generation gaps where there is a lack of relevance and relatability. It was classically depicted in the movie Footloose, or maybe a better theological example in the musical movie Fiddler...

    Demographic Decline of IFB Congregations

Ironically, the church you reference for that "Banner" publication is only about an hour from me. And what I would say about that publication in general is you can add to their problems the error of extreme Calvinism. 😁😉 Many of the issues that are at the heart of the essence of your point...

    Demographic Decline of IFB Congregations

Every Christian church has quirks and idiosyncrasies that will drive people away that are looking for something other than what may be on their theological agenda. But the sad part IMHO is that many aren't looking for theological /biblical soundness of any sort, whether of a head covering and...
