I grew up in a church that was so legalistic that they wouldn't let a man who smoked teach a SS class, sing in the choir, sing a special, or even take up the offering as an usher. They browbeat my dad so much that he eventually went off the rails, decided to throw off the "standards" enforced...

I know a LOT of people who accepted the Lord using those "canned prayers." Did they have evidence of repentance and true salvation? Most of them YES...many of them NO. It's not up to us to decide at the very beginning whether their prayer was "official." ;)
