Yes. I have been there a few times. They point out how over the decades, the damp salty air in the bay broke down the concrete which facilitated the three guys who escaped (or got as far as they did). Had the walls been new, they would not have been able to chisel their way out of their cells. Other factors played into the escape such as lax security... But deteriorated concrete which was easy to chisel played a big part. Imagine how much more deteriorated the concrete is 60+ years later.
Also, there are areas that are closed to the public because the buildings are not safe for people to enter.
