Playing off a post I made in the "Do you slap in your church?" thread, I thought I'd start a new thread to see if your church is populated more by hand shakers or huggers.

Since my church is fairly large, it's safe to say that I have not interacted with each and every member there, but of those I have interacted with, I'd say that well over 50% seem to be huggers.  As I said in the other thread, I'm not big on hugging, so when someone wants to hug, more times than not I'll decline and offer up a handshake instead. If the other person gets offended because I turned down their hug, oh well, so be it. I'm an introvert and I don't like to be hugged.

What's the make-up like at your church when it comes to hand shakers vs. huggers?

:)

I couldn't really make a valid assessment of handshakers vs. huggers.  We have both in our church.  Generally speaking, though, women hug women, men and women handshake, with a few exceptions, and men generally handshake, with a few exceptions.

As for myself, a woman, I've never felt "accosted" by any of the "hugger" men in my church.  Most are quite elderly and don't mean any harm.  One of those men really likes me.  When my husband was in the hospital, moving into hospice care, he came to sit with us.  Yep, he and I hug every time we see each other...and sometimes he makes a special trip during the week just to collect a hug.  He's a dear heart and I love him to pieces.

This pretty much identifies our church too.  When there is mixed gender hugging :D it is usually two people that are related, or separated by MANY years.  I'd tell a funny related churchstory here, but I don't want to offend the prudish types.....but let's just say the punchline is  "you'll have to ask somebody much older than me son".  :D

I couldn't really make a valid assessment of shallow vs. deep CCM.  We have both on our radio station.  Generally speaking, though, shallow songs are shallow, deep songs are deep, with a few exceptions, and both seem to be popular enough to keep getting airplay.  8)

It depends if her husband is around or not. Just kidding.

I hug people in my church...........I've been blessed to be there many years so I know them if I'm hugging them 8)

Isnt the proper question "do you"

1 Thessalonians 5:26  Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

??

If I stick my hand out for a handshake, somebody is going to take my hand and pull me in for a hug at our church. :-)  I love the warmth and friendship there.

I think many of our church members became more aware of hugging. Meaning they are alot more cautious than before I joined. Because of an incident with me and a church member, who had been gone over a year taking care of her mother. She heard about me and my wife from their best friends whom were also our best friends- The Pastor who started the church.
I didn't know her and she just came at me one day as I turned then her body was almost on mine, about to hug.. or be grabbed...I jumped back and swore at her, that's what I am told I did. her husband got really mad at me, standing in a defensive position asking what the hell was wrong with me?! The Pastor (our shared friend) intervened and I accused him of justifying her behavior. He said there was nothing to justify...  so I left. Everyone looked flabbergasted.

I worried that all week I'd endure night terrors. They'd come back but they didn't.

The following week she sat next to me. Apolagized though she had no reason to... yet i still felt she was very wrong. All while our Pastor friend was still a little miffed at me, ordered me to apologize a few times during that week, once i hung up on him. For a long time I didn't understand how she could do such a horrible thing to just try to attack someone she didn't even know. All she heard was good about me, why hurt me. She doesn't see it as an attack and of course, it wasn't one. They became very close friends of ours, moved away some time ago. Later we'd hug and I loved it but she'd always asked first. Even though it wasn't necessary. She became like a mother figure to me. Hugs are great when the person has the respect to ask first. I'd never turn a hug down in that situation It shows you can trust them. How anyone thinks they can sideswipe soemone, or expect someone to hug them without getting their thoughts on the matter FIRST is beyond me. But nice people do it all the time  :D
