My daughter attended services at this Church today.

Ethos Church

Does anyone know anything about this Church? Seems kitchy, hipster, trendy, Etc.

Seeker sensitive? Emergent Church?

She told me no one was handling snakes or getting blown over in the "spirit" so I am encouraged by this.

Do they preach heresy or any sort of doctrine that one should be wary of?

I gave a quick look-see and here are some first impressions.

I am definitely impressed by this line on their About page: "At Ethos we will never assume that you have your life together, if you won’t make that assumption about us. We are a group of imperfect people, loved by a perfect God." That is a humble position for a growing and seemingly popular church.

I'm sure you looked up their doctrinal beliefs already; I usually see it as a good thing when a church's doctrinal statement is easy to find and simple in its presentation, as this one is.

Just a quick perusal of their overall site, I did notice without looking too deeply some allusions to instructing believers in the Scriptures in their entirety. Another good thing.

They welcome the believer as well as the skeptic "and everyone in between". That could be a seeker sensitive move but given an apparent commitment to the Word, all who enter will be properly instructed.

The only catch I picked up on that leaves me some question is their stated desire to "ignite a movement". I see that as the job of the Holy Spirit alone but without inquiring further, I can let that statement go for the time being.

Overall, as you have said, she could do much worse. There are a good many in my family who, given their present church affiliations, if they were to join this church, I'd be ecstatic.

This church seems to be a very modern multi-campus kind of organization of which I am not a personal fan. I prefer the more centralized, smaller congregationally based model but that's more of a comfort thing for me.

They seem to provide plenty of links to their teachings. That would be the best resource for you to check. I think that you and I would like to see a church committed to expositional teaching but their aforementioned commitment to the entire Word is reassuring.

I would add to abcaines analysis by saying that as I looked over their website "About" section they indicated they meet regularly in homes throughout the week, which I'm sure is an extension of the thought of trying to accomodate schedules of folk that can't consistently meet on usual worship days. Of course some people may see this as a philosophical downside because the idea that making things too convenient is a way to capitulating to culture and being soft (kinda like those who swear they'll never cancel services no matter how much snow or ice is on the ground). But I doubt that the kind of person who is willing to give a church a look-see with a name like Ethos (as opposed to First Baptist Church of Hyles or Ruckman Baptist 😁) will view the home groups as a anything but a plus.

Thank you guys for your assessment! I looked all over the website and listened to one of their sermons and didn't see anything immediately sticking out. Looks like they are not on the radar of any of the YouTube Apologists so that is a good thing. My Daughter says she still wants to be a "Baptist" though so I am happy about that. 😄

If you want to know what they're like, listen to the sermons. Two of the series since the new year are expository series on Colossians and Revelation 2-3, which is encouraging.

Their statement of beliefs is brief, but specific and orthodox. So they're not emergies, not that there are too many of that crowd left around.

I didn't recognize any of their recent worship songs. I'd find it off-putting if I couldn't sing at church because I none of the music was familiar, though if I was a regular I'd probably learn them.

So they're probably a broadly evangelical (non-denominational?) megachurch, not liberal, not particularly radical. Likely not too different from my own church.

Their church logo looks like an obsolete Web browser.

Maybe she could infiltrate their ranks and eventually get them to name it properly...... Ethos BAPTIST Church?

Just a thought, ya know..... for such a time as this kinda stuff😁
