Iran, the next war.

The current situation with Iran reminds me of the story "Ransom of Red Chief" by O. Henry. In that short story, two criminals kidnap the son of a rich man and demand a ransom of $2,000. The boy creates so much trouble for the kidnappers that they reduce the ransom to $1,500, but the boy's father refuses to take the unruly boy back unless the kidnappers pay him $250 to take him back, which they agree to.

In June, Trump offered Iran a "ransom" of $300,000,000,000+ to let us off the hook for this war that Bibi got him into, but Iran has us over a barrel and they won't accept the ransom - it's not good enough, they want reparations, and they want an end to Bibi's war on Lebanon, which of course Bibi will not agree to, because he wants us to keep the war going indefinitely.

Here is the text of the offer Trump made Iran in June, which Iran is rejecting:

"The United States of America undertakes with regional partners to develop a definitive, mutually agreed plan with at least $300 billion for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Not a bad analogy. The Iranians have played a pretty good game of rope-a-dope over the last year.

Trump promised no more wars and lower gas prices during his campaign. So he started a war that raised gas prices. That's some solid leadership there. The midterms may very well be the Democrats' to lose.
