Jerry went to be with the Lord 10 years ago on May 15th. His vision and legacy live on.

One of the "Rebels" who went "liberal" and even though Jack Hyles and Jack Schaap bashed him, he still had admirers in the IFB movement as Tony Hutson even said he was "Bold" for going on his own.  Always remember the words of the great Jack Hyles claiming Falwell pioneered "awful Christian Rock music".

The Great Jack Hyles never forgave Falwell for going "liberal".
Whether or not you think Liberty's direction is good or bad we all know Jack Hyles predicted it 35 years ago. If you think the more liberal positions for Liberty has been good then you will view Hyles concern as silly, if you disagree with their move to the left then you understand Hyles concern. One thing is clear, moving to the left brought about rapid growth to 110,000 current students (30,000 on campus and 80,000 online).

It is all in one's perspective.
I'm not sure how you define moving to the left, although I know many IFBs take that as factual...and certainly they are to the left of most IFB's...but who isn't?  :)

I was a student at Liberty (along with 4everFSU of the forum) in the very early days of Liberty and am still involved with them through the Liberty Church Network. Things are certainly different there today than when I was there in the 70's. But I'd wager that things are different at most IFB colleges today than they were in the 79's as well.
However, Liberty was never as 'legalistic' as other IFB schools, including BJU...ever, as 4ever can attest...he also attended BJ. The thing that puzzles me, and I've mentioned it here before, is that Falwell was faithful to the faith, faithful to his ministry and died with no hint of scandal in his personal or ministry life...yet he is castigated by IFB's as a liberal compromiser. Yet Hyles is revered by many who criticize Falwell. I don't get it!

When Jerry died his ministry was thriving, church and school and since his death both have grown and strengthened. The same cannot be said of Hyles and Hammond...and yet....

This makes me smile. UC Berkeley is liberal. Bernie Sanders is on the left. They may not be as "separated" as a lot of IFB but they are very conservative and right wing.

TB is not only accurate with what he wrote but correct. Liberty back when we attended being liberal must have been because  they accepted black students where as BJU where I went for my freshman year did not. BJU believe and practiced 2nd degree separation back then, Liberty did not when I attended. I believe female students could wear pants at Liberty while at BJU they could not.  Geez BJU did not have  intercollegiate sports back then because BJU could be in the world but not part of the world as I was told when I asked. BTW BJU went liberal about 5 yrs ago or around that time when they started up their sports program.

When I think of Christians saying my church or my school or my family is not liberal like yours, I think ok maybe to man's(your) standard, but God will be the measuring stick.

BTW Jerry Falwell was never tainted with the accusation of a sexual affair where as Jack Hyles was.  As we could also talk about the differences between the children of both families.

Speaking of the differences between the children of both families....

Well at least Falwell Sr. doesn't have a son-in-law that's a pedophile either.
