Kirk Cameron is now an annihilationist

I doubted what you reported so I checked it out and found two different sources that confirmed what you said. He said that eternal suffering is inconsistent with the God of the Bible. Very sad.

That was my first reaction too.

I always liked Kirk, especially how he gave up fame for a principled stand for the gospel. ☹️

I'm disappointed, but, I won't throw the baby out with the bathwater! It just adds to the long list of Christians who have fallen to beliefs that just don't fit with the truth of the Bible. Do I believe he is saved? Yes. Do I believe his position on this is correct? No, not at all.

I wonder what Gretchen Whitmer thinks about this? Maybe I should see if she will meet with me to discuss it. You know, taking turns sharing and listening. If I'm able to set it up I will be sure to have pictures taken of the meeting. 😉

He doesn't understand the character of God.

There is no doctrine I would more willingly remove from Christianity than [hell], if it lay in my power … I would pay any price to be able to say truthfully: ‘All will be saved.’—CS Lewis

Sadly there are many who are teaching exactly that lie. They believe that they are honoring God by tying it to His love.

As for "annihilationism", aka "conditional immortality", I could consider that one a minority view. It requires that we look at words like "perish" and phrases like "fear him who can kill both the body and soul" very, very literally. It doesn't do away with hell altogether, but simply suggests that it's not "burning bush" fire down there, but your everyday, garden variety consuming fire.

Thus while sinners will suffer, the only difference is that it's not eternal. But who knows how long, and how existentially horrible, that annihilation process will be? It's not something I'd want to take for granted, even if it is temporary.
Neither is it purgatory, as there is no coming back whatsoever. Hell's effects are still quite permanent and irreversible.

Interesting thoughts. Thank you.
