There is a lot of internet chatter about this situation. This would be a good time to remember:
1) Pray for the Olson family.
2) Time may reveal what happened. I am an "outsider" so I cannot pretend to know what happened. Here are some likely scenarios:
---Perhaps he was removed by the board because he moved too fast, too far...
---Perhaps he was removed by the board because he did not have the charm to keep the constituitency...
---Perhaps he was removed as a sacrificial lamb and this gives NIU an opportunity to get another man who shares the same direction without having the baggage.
Les Ollila, a very loved man, presided over NIU for MANY years had a way of confronting IFBXr culture. He had a wit and charm that enabled him to make poignant policies regarding the direction of Northland away from a IFBXr mentality... for example:
His "Devil, Demon, Denim" paradigm about how some IFBXrs, in the 1960s, believed that wearing blue jeans was a radical concept.
He wore gaudy earrings into his workshops and seminars to get a laugh.
These were probably the limits of what could be changed... let's hope not!
