The Meeting House in Oakville, Ontario has had to cancel all worship meetings and in-person activities because no insurer will provide liability insurance for this congregation. The reason is because 4 of their pastors have been "credibly accused of sexual misconduct."

Check out the comments:

"We have an epidemic in the evangelical/charismatic church in North America! Why would any one, especially women, want to even come close to these mega churches? I propose TRR do a calculation. Start with the total number of mega churches in North America. Then tally up how many of them have had some kind of secual [sic] abuse or assault by a pastor or staff of these churches. What would the percentage be? There is a story for you!"

"Good for the insurance company for recognizing what The Meeting Place’s leadership refused to see- any church credibly accused of systemic abuse should cease to exist. disband. you’re doing it wrong, and you don’t have the eyes to see what parts are causing you to fail- or you wouldn’t have been doing them in the first place. End it permanently and go humbly sit under other teaching. you’ve proven that you’re not fit to lead, so stop trying to."

"As far as I am concerned, let them all shut down. Jesus’ Church is not a big building, a charismatic 'pastor' who does no actual pastoring, a bunch of programs, a bunch of debt for some particular franchise that does not, and I do not think any of them do, have Jesus Christ as their actual Lord. We have a system that has locked Jesus permanently outside His own church. We have created an abomination with a bunch of idols and a fake Jesus Christ. Actual repentance is required, back to Jesus and Jesus alone. Church is not merely a social club. Never has been and never will be."

When Bruxy Cavey was fired two years ago, it was big news in Canadian church circles, because he was so high-profile and believed to be one of the good guys. There were other allegations of sexual misconduct resulting in charges and/or convictions as well.

By all appearances, the Meeting House was doing its due diligence to protect its members once these allegations became known. If, two years later, they find themselves even uninsurable, it goes to show how deeply the rot actually permeated.

I've never heard before of a megachurch shutting down actually closing its doors because of a sexual abuse scandal. You'd expect there would be checks and balances that would allow them to keep going. I wonder whether the church will actually survive.

Update on Bruxy Cavey - sex assault charges against him "stayed" because he was not brought to trial fast enough.

"Staying a charge means the court has effectively put an end to prosecution. Two more sexual assault charges were laid in late December 2023. Trial dates haven't yet been set."

According to this web site, "Cavey is one of [Canada's] most recognizable religious leaders. Far from being orthodox, he is also a false teacher who denies penal substitutionary atonement, biblical inerrancy, the eternality of hell, has an unbiblical view of the sin of homosexuality, and displays an affinity for open-theism. . . . Further investigations would reveal that the church has an endemic problem, with a third-party investigation revealing that there have been nearly 40 different reports of sexual abuse against four pastors within the church."

The congregant, whose identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban, accused Cavey of pressuring her into having a secret sexual relationship. In a 2022 interview with “The Star,” she said Cavey told her that “what they were doing wasn’t right but that God was permitting it.” She stayed silent for four years after the relationship ended. “I was in a brainwashed state,” she told the Toronto paper.
Staaaaaaaaahp! The chick is responsible for yielding. What? She doesn't know the Commandments?

If anyone has the 'under a spell' excuse, it's the man...

Proverbs 6:25 ... neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

So if that's no excuse for the man, then the 'power' is no excuse for the woman.
