I keep hearing about Nicki Manaj speaking as being a Christian, the latest being at a Turning Point event. She has garnered a lot of attention recently for speaking out against persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Of course she’s accused of being a Christian Nationalist, which may actually be accurate.

Anyhoo, with her lyrical themes and content, I am curious about your take on the phenomenon of celebrities, especially those of questionable character (who don’t seem to be changing significantly) that become spokespersons or icons for Christianity?

Minaj's professed Christianity is hard to square with her public image, and a sudden shift to the political right isn't a religious conversion.

As I've said before: wait and see.

Yes, time will tell is the decent and safe answer.

Of course, my question really was steeped in more than just one recent celebrity character seizing the spotlight and being hailed as a bastion of virtue, but rather the tendency since the digital age has had a hugely significant impact on our culture in general. It smacks of trendy, but not genuine moves of God, despite the constant usage of terms like “revival”.

I get weary of any celebrity who talks about god being touted as a Christian.

According to her Wikipedia entry, she is a Christian. Depends on what they or she mean by that. Much "black Christianity" in the US is cultural, and pretty much every rapper began by singing in church. (Minaj's parents, for example, were gospel singers in Trinidad.)

Discernment is in pretty short supply these days. Christians are certainly not exempt from this observation.
