Just like that black but white leader of the Spokane WA chapter of the NAACP a few years back.

Hey... let's give special privileges to those of certain racial backgrounds! What could possibly go wrong with that?

If people get to identify as whatever they wish these days, they really shouldn’t have double standards. 😎

I remember thinking how outrageous and crazy that woman must be when that story first surfaced, but now, several years down the road, it actually seems somewhat tame. Shows how much society has changed in the past decade.

You're not alone.

In my early middle-age years I distinctly remember loathing the thought that I would become that elderly dude that thought things were always better in my younger days and that these young whippersnappers were idiots. It's pretty clear that I am quickly becoming that guy.

Actually, Natives have a pretty good system in place. If you're going to try to reap the benefits of being a Native American, you need to register with whatever specific tribe you claim to be part of. You will then be vetted to see if your claim is valid. If Cal-Berkley was smart, which they aren't, they could have verified her claims very easily.

i always found accounts like this amazing..... being half navajo and even born on the reservation never got me any jobs or special consideration in school..... in fact it actually did me more harm than good.... when i first joined my new family i badly wanted to be officially adopted by them but my mom.... working from prison... managed to use an archaic u.s. law that forbade the adoption of native american children by non-native americans... specifically whites or other european races... to prevent it.... then i discovered years later that due to the way she registered my birth i was not even an officially registered member of the tribe...

Are you able to get registered yourself now that you’re an adult?

i had the opportunity to apply back then when i first discovered i wasn;t registered.... ..but i was so disgusted by that and other things happening at the time that i refused it.... now i;m not even sure i want it.... but i did do the other thing i was prevented from as a child - after i became an adult.... i became officially adopted by the family i have been with all these years... :)
