This isn't from The Onion....sadly it's about reality on many of today's college campuses/campi.

From the article:

"Still, it?s disconcerting to see students clamor for a kind of intrusive supervision that would have outraged students a few generations ago. But those were hardier souls."

Yup.  The weak permeate the college campuses.  Weak students, weak administrators, weak professors.

Someone wrote 'Trump' in chalk!!!
Oh! The socialist liberal democrat humanity!

I'm not a fan of the "safe space" concept. In your own home, sure.
But in public spaces, there's no such thing as freedom from being offended.
The cure for offensive speech is plenty of opposing speech, not shutting up the offender.

i am not a fan of it either.... i believe people should communicate with decency and treat each other with respect without the need for rules or a safe zone....... but whenever people start to make rules they have created one..... and it;s fine as long as everybody agrees and those rules are enforced equally and fairly.........

but when they are not.... ... and some start finding amusement in pushing those rules then mocking those who object to them being broken.... ... ..... then i say throw the rule book out....  remove the proverbial floating barrier that is keeping everybody splashing around in the shallow end of the pool - and we can all start dragging each other into the deep...... ..... we will find out then who is really one of the sharks and who is just another tuna.... .....  ;)

I agree.
There is no right not to be offended.
Free speech must flow from all sides of the political spectrum by technical definition.
Unfortunately, many in academia don't understand eith of your points.

There's an appropriate place for safe spaces: in therapy or support groups, that sort of thing, where you want people to be comfortable being themselves.

Somehow, the special-snowflake students have taken that and demanded that the "safe space" cover the entire campus. It's no longer a way to not be inappropriately judged; it's become a way to protect them from unwanted contrary opinions.

Of course, college campuses are intellectually diverse places. Why aren't they also safe spaces for, say, pro-Trump students?
