Who do you think are the best current MLB players?  I will start with a couple of thoughts.

Best hitter - Miguel Cabrera
This guy may be the best pure hitter that I have seen in my lifetime.

Best all around player - Mike Trout
Loves the game and hustles in all areas.

Trout, but I would think Giancarlo Stanton and Bryce Harper are nipping at his heels.

Yes, especially Harper.  I think that Trout is a better defensive player than Harper.

Not behind the plate. ;)

Trout has more speed but you have to remember Harper came up as a catcher so he is in essence learning a relatively new position. I think the Cubs are going to model Kyle Schwarber's transition to the outfield as the Nats did with Harper.

Have you ever seen a sweeter swing than Miguel Cabrera's?

Only Griffey Jr's. That man's swing was like silk.

No denying Cabrera is a stud.

As a life-long Angels fan I can't really be objective. It was interesting to hear so many other All-Stars say how good Trout is or "the best",  etc.

I'll say one thing I can be objective about...he seems to be a classy guy and you have to like watching a guy who seems to love playing the game the way he does. Oh, and I am glad he plays for the Angels. :)

It's good to see Albert hitting again.

I'm by no means a White Sox fan, but I can appreciate great pitching when I see it, and he sure made my Cubbies look bad last weekend. He had them swinging at stuff way outside and also in the dirt. It was a masterful performance.

Now there's a guy who was a magician with a bat!

In one of his memoir books, the late umpire Ron Luciano tells a Carew story. Luciano was umping behind the plant and Carew was on 3rd. Low and behold, he sees out of the corner of his eye on a pitch, Carew streaking toward the plate to steal home. He beat the tag and Luciano ruled him safe.

Second base umpire called a timeout and approached Luciano. Apparently, the runner on 2nd base had called timeout just before the pitch was delivered so the play (thus the run) didn't count. Luciano called Carew back to 3rd base and said, "Sorry, Rod. Guess you will have to do it again." Sure 'nuff, next pitch, Carew comes barreling down the 3rd base line and beat the pitch again. Luciano surmised that might have been the only time in baseball history a player successfully stole home two times on consecutive pitches!

I had high hopes for Vince Coleman, but the ground crew took him out.
