Growing up, it was considered something that ecumenicals participated in... so, our pastor did not recite or lead the church in the prayer.
In fact, I cannot find an instance where it was even taught on.
This is 180 degrees from where I am at today.

We do repeat it from time to time (as we do, on occasion, the Apostles' or Nicene Creed).
As a general rule, though, we recognize it as a template for prayer, not as liturgy in itself.
