I'm sure he makes some good points, but I don't think that one can support the idea that people are spiritually strong when they forsake the church for which Jesus Christ died.
Believe me, I completely agree with you and truth be known, I am certain Voddie Baucham would not disagree with you here.
I have literally BEEN HERE on a number of occasions during my lifetime. I was there in the "Model IFB Church" that on the surface, seemed to check all the boxes but I felt all alone and spiritually starved. Took quite a bit of time for me to get the courage to obey God and look for something outside the realm of the "IFB World!"
I experienced it time and time again in many of the Churches I tried to be a part of since moving back to Texas and, time and time again, I found myself woefully disappointed longing for a connection among God's People but finding myself all alone in a sea of "Strangers with Familiar Faces" whose spirituality was a mile wide and an inch deep and often seemed only to have ulterior motives when they sought out my "friendship" and the pastors and pastoral staff seemed little more than "Professional Christians" who lived in an ivory tower, were absolutely clueless, and disconnected from the real world!
I am in a good place now and it is something I will never again take for granted! My heart goes out to those who are out in the wilderness and feeling all alone. I was teaching in our mid-week service tonight reminding our people of the importance of being connected to a Local Church where our God-given spiritual gifts are discovered, developed, and put to use for the glory of God! I am very much a strong advocate of the Local Church!
Problem is that so many of these "Church Fellowships" have turned their focus upon being "seeker sensitive," entertaining goats, and are therefore alienating and running off the sheep! So many have been burned so many times that they have serious trust issues.
