The search engine, it does nothing!

I've tried searching some terms relevant to topics that have been talked to death recently, and it consistently comes up with a bright red message saying there are no results. Something's broken!

It's been that way for months. I do a google search with the site: option.

It may well have been that way for some time, but no one has complained about it here until now, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to do so.

I often use Google to search the site, but I have a feeling what I was looking for may be too recent for it to have been indexed yet, as I got no joy from them, either.
 
I am not sure of the problem. Probably a glitch in this theme.

Any plans on troubleshooting this valuable feature?
 
It's not just the theme, BTW. I switched themes to try a search and got the same [lack of] results.
 
Any progress to report on fixing the search feature?
 
I went through two website developers who could not figure it out.  Short of exporting all of the posts and reinstalling fresh, I need to find someone able to tackle this
