Does anyone know how I might be able to look at or get a HAC student manual? When I think back all of those years, I have forgotten all the rules we had. I just think it might be amusing to review what was once the law of the land...

I can't believe that I did all of that, ever.

I heard one of the rules stated, "Do not molest the ducks."

Hey, careful there buddy! 🦆
In the old days of the FFF, when there was a chat room, this came up. We were chatting and someone, Alex, I believe, mentioned the thing about the ducks... It was sheer pandemonium after that.

Ask sword he may help you. I don't think that is available unless you're a student.

illinoisguy, did you ever attend HAC? I appreciate you looking, but the stuff they publish on their website is what you might call the "sanitized" version. The student handbook (which I think SherryH correctly said) is only available to the students and has all the good stuff in it -- at least it did when I left there almost 50 years ago. Like no touching between the sexes, how far away you have to keep, off campus activities, dress code specifics and most important, how much discipline (demerits) you will receive for the infractions. From looking at recent photos, it looks as if some of the dress code has relaxed, but apparently they hold on to the "nothing but dresses/skirts for girls. Some have characterized that as "the signature standard."

The article in VF says that the handbook got leaked online some time in the past, but I can't find it. I have nothing more than a morbid curiosity about it today. I think it might bring some smiles to my face to read it today and reminisce about the old days and how crazy that time was.

No, Justice, I didn't attend HAC. It's only natural that the material on the HAC web sites are sanitized public relations stuff that paints a rosy picture, and they, and IFB colleges in general, are not likely to tell prospective students how strict they are until after they enroll and arrive on campus. If you can ferret out a bootlegged copy of the current HAC rules, and post that material for us, you would be doing a public service. Let the buyer beware.

Check out this commentary on HAC rules - slightly dated, 5 years old. [For comments, scroll down and click on "view 47 comments"]

My alma mater, the University of Waterloo, is apparently a wildlife sanctuary and lousy with mallards when I was there. (I lived in an on-campus residence in first year, and it took me a few weeks to get used to all the quacking when I was trying to sleep.) Sadly, every year a few ducks would be killed by some frosh who came back from a pub crawl or whatever and decided to kick them around.

While the HAC rule is unfortunately worded, cruelty to the local wildlife seems to be a constant.

(I never heard of the frosh attacking the Canada geese. Probably because they're inclined to molest back.)
