Too short, too long, or too common

Is it possible to disable the search engine's restriction on "too short, too long, or too common" search terms? Refusing to return search results because your search term is three letters long seems a bit arbitrary. I frequently find myself unable to search for certain topics on the forum because the most relevant search is too short.

I can understand not wanting to return results for a silly search like "the." On the other hand, something like "WTC," say, would yield useful results if you're trying to find 9/11-related threads.
