What Would You Do?

So ... the guys here at the office (including myself) just finished a BIG installation for a new client and Friday they are going out to celebrate.

They are going to Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery, a Celtic themed sports bar and restaurant chain in the United States and Canada that employs scantily-clad female servers in kilts.[2] It has been described as "Hooters with a Scottish twist" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilted_Kilt_Pub_%26_Eatery)

I quietly declined without being a jerk. Got me wondering though about freedom in Christ and what other brothers might do in such a situation.

Well, would you go? What would you do?

You're wife will appreciate it. Sounds like you work with a bunch of horn dogs. My wife would ignore Deut 25:11-12

Personally, I believe you handled it well.  You have not compromised your witness to these guys, but you also weren't a jerk about it.  The time will come when you will have the opportunity to touch one or more of these guys lives, and you will not have disqualified yourself from it.  There are places and ways we who are Christians should not be celebrating....our freedom in Christ does not equate to license.

Same here.  I've never been to a Hooters or Tilted Kilt.  There is a fairly new Tilted Kilt nearby, and it's always packed.  It replaced a Bennigans that looked like it never had any customers.

Always seems like God is using the situation to draw one of your co-workers, doesn't it?

I would go and might even enjoy it, if the food and the beer were good. Scantily clad waitresses in kilts sounds fine to me. But the sports bar part, I don't like that much. The crowds are usually too loud and I don't like loud. That is, loud music is fine, if I like the music. But loud crowd noise I can always do without.

My response would probably be shock.  "Your joking, right?"

The fact that anyone could get the impression I'd be interested would disturb me.
Tim is in construction which often attracts a rougher (blue collar) crowd so it doesn't sound too far off of a typical day :) or the world is just getting worse. Maybe both.

Sounds like you handled the situation well by quietly refusing the offer.
You don't want to hangout in places like that as a Christian, but it's a natural impulse for men to want to.

I don't disagree.  I really enjoy seeing beautiful women, scantily clad, or even fully clad.  And I'm curious about Tilted Kilt, especially because it's so crowded.  But it's not worth satisfying my curiosity if it will offend my wife.  And she's the only one I'm concerned about (aside from my kids, but they wouldn't need to know I went there).  I couldn't care less what someone else thinks if he/she saw me there.

My wife would not appreciate it either. And as a Christian, my natural desire for women should be focused on her.
Men are easily too easily tempted though, which is why there are places like Tilted Kilt. It's not crowded because their food is so good.

You should care.  If a new Christian sees you there he might conclude there is nothing wrong with it.  He might be encouraged to do the same thing and fall into sin because he lacks your ability to resist the temptations involved.  The Bible warns that we should avoid doing anything that would cause a weaker Christian to stumble.  When exercising our liberty conflicts with the command to love our brothers love should always have the higher priority.

Are you a vegetarian?

Do you have no fear of God at all?

Liberty in grace is not a license for lasciviousness.

No.  Why do you ask?

I just know some folks who have a moral objection to eating meat and was curious if you practice what you preach.
