I think I've told this story before, but here it comes again. :D  I got saved at 19 and went to church apathetically for a couple of years, then shortly thereafter fell by the wayside for nearly a decade.  I started back to church at the invite of the man who got me my job (of 24 years now, for which I am so grateful to him).  It was boring, but I stuck it out for a couple of years, until a HAC young man was used of the Lord to reach me and set me on the right path.  I was pretty carnal prior to that, especially in my musical taste.  I'd go to Frampton/Skynyrd concerts and such.  That new young pastor gave me tickets to a McKameys and Inspirations concert.  I had never listened to any gospel music before that, except maybe an Elvis rendition of How Great Thou Art.  I took the tickets reluctantly, more or less just to appease him.  I took the tickets, but really wasn't even going to go, but thought I better not be so deceptive, and not waste the tickets that he'd given me in kindness.  The rest is history.  My favorite gospel group is now and forever the Inspirations. :D

Who is your favorite gospel group?

Apparently, 17 years in the Appalachians has not been sufficient time to cause me to like Southern Gospel, but I can listen to The Inspirations one song at a time.  Hope you all enjoy it!

I  liked bluegrass and folk music since my youth, so the gap wasn't that far of a jump for me.

And I know this sounds a bit odd, but most of what is categorized as "Southern Gospel", at least what I have been exposed to, is noise in my ears.  Most of the Inspirations don't sound like that to me.  Far more spiritual meat, less toe-tappin IMNSHO.  Did that sound too defensive? :D

Not TOO defensive at all.

At the mission conf last night I thought about the variety that we hear.  Our choir sang, "Wonderful, Merciful, Savior,"  two teens played a banjo/guitar duet of "I'll Fly Away," (which was surprisingly good) and a ladies trio sang, "There is Nothing Greater Than Grace."  A little something for everyone  ;D

I would be shouting as I listen to the inspirations... I'm glad you got to enjoy them...Amen you can the girl far from the mountains but I will always have an ear for southern gospel...

I'm FB friends with Jon Epley of the Inspirations.  We've known him for about 15 years....when he was still really blonde.  I also taught another one of his brothers in school.

The Inspirations is my favorite SG group because I like the simplicity of their music.  They were along on the cruise we went on 8 years ago.  All of them were very nice, congenial Christians (and I couldn't say that about every member of each group on that cruise.)

We were in those West Virginia mountains a plenty today Sherry.  Up and down, round and round.  I felt like a termite in a yo-yo. :D

The Inspirations were fantastic, as always, and we had a great time.  One funny story.  At the end of the concert the pastor of the hosting Freewill Baptist church closed things with some prayer and challenging comments, as well as an invitation.  The Inspirations had just sung a song about the Holy Spirit keeping us.  It was a new song I hadn't heard before, so I don't know the name of it, but it was good.  As the pastor spoke during his concluding remarks, he said something about the Holy Spirit sealing us and getting us to heaven for sure and certain, and I couldn't help but elbow Mrs ALAYMAN in the side and whisper "it's kinda ironic in a Freewill Baptist church to hear the pastor and people talkin' about eternal security". :D

Going around the curves on the mountain roads now would make me so sick... I am the driver now until my husband gets his vision back...hey if I can drive on I 95 I can drive anywhere... 8)

My first time driving on 95 was up in the Northeast.  I was young, liked to drive fast, but my idea of fast was speeding around Columbus interstates at about 75mph.  Doing 75mph on 95 in the Northeast got me honked at and headlights flashed at me to get out of the way. :D

Alayman, I was driving in Miami and people were passing me like I was standing still...no comparison Detroit is crazy along with Chicago and the Dan Ryan expressway...

When me and ALAYWIFE took our honeymoon trip in 1992 we cruised out of Miami.  On our way to the ship I was driving a rental on I-95 and inadvertently turned off the wrong exit, near the Orange Bowl.  Within seconds we were pulled over by law enforcement.  I was freaking out, though I had done nothing wrong, I was young and not well travelled, so I wondered what I had done wrong.  The officer asked what we were doing in the neighborhood, and I told him I had made a wrong turn.  In no uncertain terms he told us to get out of there, and back on the interstate before something bad happened to us.  I learned later that that area around the Orange Bowl was a VERY bad neighborhood, and he meant what he said.  :-X

My husband made the same mistake I wasn't with him...the police showed him the correct route ....it'd liberty city and the area is very poor...
