In another thread we were reminiscing of older FFF days and Phil Armenik's (Ryan Debarr) came up, and I wondered how he might be doing these days so I googled and came up with this...

Is this the one and the same of FFF fame?

I never knew what Ryan looked like! I made some pretty good contacts through the old FFF....I know when I almost died in 2004, and was hospitalized because I had lost so much blood and was getting transfusions...Dr. Bob Griffin was the first one who called me while I was in the hospital. I got 7 units of blood in two days and he kept in touch with me through nearly all of it! Marine (Tim Lee) talked my wife and I into finally leaving the IFB movement and going to an SBC church in our area. Our pastor at the time was a Hylesite and was supporting Joe Combs from the pulpit! That made me and my wife get up and leave the service one Sunday evening! We joined the SBC church a few weeks later...what a healing thing it was for us!

My, my, my, we really are pulling from the recesses of the cob-webbed corners of the FFF, lol. Dr Bob, my Calvinist nemesis :p, and Marine, wow, the memories. I will limit it to one story (for now, lol). I had just been very unexpectedly laid-off at my job of 16 years right before Christmas, and had asked for prayers from the forum family. (I hope he doesn't mind me telling this)... Next thing I know I get a package in the mail, and it was from Marine. There was some words of encouragement, a couple of books, and money! I really didn't want that, nor asked for it, but it meant a lot to me, knowing I was one of those Fundy-defenders at the time, but that didn't matter to him one bit. Solid man, better Christian!

And of course Ryan is wearing a wig in that video, as part of his schtick.

I had some great conversations with b

I had some great conversations with Marine and Dr. Bob! Of course, Dr. Bob went to the same college I did, but much earlier, him in 68-69, and me in 82-83. Thomas Cassidy was another I knew. He used to come to the youth conclaves that Arno Wenigers church in Bloomington/Normal, IL used to have every year. We were friends for years until he started to lose some of his cognitive ability. He withdrew from our friendship, but, that was fine. I was aware that he was ill. Now...Ryan,..I thought he was wearing a wig...I only saw pics of him from others, and he was always goofing around! LOL

Cassidy could come across as a bit smug, but I enjoyed his presence and participation on the forum. He clearly wasn't cut from the same cloth as the Hyles style fundamentalist but his position on the KJV did seem to evolve from when I first started reading some of his materials circa 2001, going from what I perceived to be a strong King James advocate, to more of an emphasis on the underlying masoretic texts. Regardless, he is missed and I look forward to hearing him pontificate again someday. 😁

I just hope he's not telling the Lord about the text issue! LOL I'm pretty sure he spent time conversing with St. Peter at the pearly gates! ;)

Out of the blue, around 2001-2002 or so, Marine dropped me a note letting me know there was a package headed my way. It turned out to be a very nice poster-sized print of Spurgeon preaching in his pulpit. Which I have, still safe in its tube, only because I've not lived where I had a suitable wall to frame and hang it. Tim and I had a go-around or two on the original FFF, but he's a nice guy.

Looks like him! I'd know that wig anywhere.
Man, he is passionate about his property rights and historical opinions, but I wish he was publishing some content of a theological nature, even if it was merely satire and parody!

...Tim and I had a go-around or two on the original FFF,...
If I remember correctly those run-ins usually were regarding Calvinism, right?

But does anyone remember me? 😜

Living "up north" working full time at the camp we had volunteered with for ever. Bi-vocational missionary who is right now getting ready to head out for his afternoon school bus route.
Lots of stories including meeting FSSL in person a few years back.
Y'all mentioned Dr. Bob. Well, I am friends with him on Facebook and enjoy his daily dad/grandpa jokes.
Kids are grown and serving the Lord. Seven grandchildren they have produced.

Do you and Alayboy still pursue your love of baseball?

A few of them probably, but a couple of other theological issues as well, though I don't remember the specifics anymore.

Good to hear Dr Bob is still gettin' along well. Seven grandkids huh? 2 more and you could git a baseball team, not that I am obsessed with that sport or anything. Actually, as far as ALAYboy and b-ball go, he is on the varsity team now and don't see much use for the old man's coaching anymore, much to my chagrin. The whole parenthood thing has pretty much been by the book as I might have expected, until these rascally teenage years. Good kid, but definitely don't see much of him anymore, and I ain't Superman in his eyes <sniff sniff>.

Hope ya stick around a spell bro.
