Theodicy, will we ever know the full origins of evil?

Not exactly, but if that helps you then good 😊 (hint) you haven’t addressed the “why” of the origins of evil nor the essence of God’s permissibility for and use of it.
Sure I posted why the why was in the scripture I posted about Lucifer. Ezekiel 28:17

You so strongly discount philosophy, but then you start philosophizing yourself. Careful there, big boy.
Where did I philosophize was my question? I quoted scripture about Lucifer and gave my opinion is that what you consider philosophizing ?

Again, your quote from an earlier post: “Interesting article though I skipped the philosophers views. I don’t place any credence on philosophical views.”

Yes, you are philosophizing if it’s not in black & white in the Bible. That’s perfectly normal, by the way, and encouraged.

Lol, I didn’t realize opinions were philosophizing interesting POV.

Was there evil before Lucifer? Was Lucifer created evil? Where did the evil in Lucifer come from?

Philosophy is just another word for wisdom. Paul further describes the difference between worldly wisdom (philosophy) and Biblical philosophy (wisdom). “Worldly” wisdom/philosophy is truly foolish. Do you think that the book of Ecclesiastes contains philosophy?

Scripture says Lucifer was created perfect. Where was evil before Lucifer IMO is philosophy and scripture addresses imposing philosophy on truth and it wasn’t good. Where did the evil in Lucifer come from ? The evil in Lucifer came from within himself as scripture says.

Fair enough. Your claim then, is that moral evil never existed before Lucifer and that he created/conjured it from within his own being?

Where in scripture does Paul ever use the term biblical philosophy ? Wisdom comes from truth while philosophy comes from speculation IMO. Col 2:8 - Beware lest any man spoil you throughphilosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Not to split hairs, but the word is split in two in Greek and means the love (or pursuit) of wisdom. Up until about a hundred years ago or so, philosophy was considered a natural handmaiden to theology, and certainly in Catholicism it still is.

The passage you quoted was one of the texts I was alluding to when I said Paul differentiated between worldly wisdom and the wisdom of God.

Yeah, splitting hairs😉….the idea, as you admit, is the notion of true wisdom (loved by the followers of Christ, rooted in His word) vs love of so-called (“wordly”) wisdom, and knowing the difference between discerning between the two.

The worldly wisdom was called philosophy Which Paul warned us not to be spoiled ( ruined) by.
You are on the right track, but only looking at one side of the coin. Paul was warning against “wisdom” (the kind sought by and originating in the world, a world that is dead to His true wisdom) rooted in thinking about things with one’s self in mind, whereas wisdom from God is the fear/reverence of Him and His holy knowledge (prov 9:10), or in other words Biblical wisdom. Both kinds of wisdom (worldly and Godly) are a process of the mind, but one is dependent on the trusted source (God) vs the other which’s doomed to burn like wood, hay, and stubble.

Here’s a good link describing the mystery of the origin of Lucifer’s sin.

It really annoys me how fundamental Christians have hijacked the word philosophy and the subject of philosophy and turned it into a dirty word/subject area. It’s the equivalent of the gay movement hijacking the rainbow. There are numerous Christian philosophers today, and certainly in the past. They are normally referred to as theists in philosophical corners. Here are some well known contemporary Christian philosophers: https://blog.canberradeclaration.or...d-class-philosophers-who-defend-christianity/

I agree with your post, but not Piper. The Bible does not open with unexplained evil it opens with in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Evil isn’t seen in scripture until chapter 3. Every scriptural explanation about the beginning of evil seems to be dismissed and turned into a mystery, and that is why we are warned by Paul about avoiding philosophy. Piper says Satan was created good while scripture says he was created perfect.

You really believe fundamentalist have turned philosophy into a dirty word ? I guess you believe the apostle Paul was a fundamentalist because it was Paul that warned those in Christ to not be spoiled(ruined) by philosophy. . Col 2:8 - Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Are you implying God created something not good?

Are you implying God created something not good?
No. Everything God created was good as He said. The good that was created in satan he corrupted through his pride and evil desires. The good created in Adam was corrupted through his disobedience to God.
