Eph 5:19, warrant for various music styles?

“speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

What do you think the implications are for the different musical terms regarding corporate worship, if any?
I have a thesis on this.
Wrote it in College, so....25 years ago.
A word study of "psalm, hymn, and song" delivered quite the insight.
Psalm= to pluck...as in the instruments
Hymn= to chant...the rhythm or percussion
Song= the vocals, words...the singing part.
Add em up, and you get: music.
K.I.S.S.

Since we are allowing K.I.S.S. to be the over-arching arbiter of discussion lately (as I have done several times in the last few days 😁) I think that the verse is Paul's way of stating that our praise (whether in individual conversation, or corporate worship) ought to be based in solid Scriptural warrant. Said another way, these modes of worship ought to be doctrinally sound (and singing the Psalms verbatim guarantees that, so if something else is to be used other than Psalms then it better not be secular in nature).

Of course. That is the face value interpretation, which trumps all.
I was attempting to add depth.

And that is very much appreciated! If you have a link to that study posted somewhere I would gladly take a look at it. :)

I wrote it in '99, and never uploaded it to any content platform.
All of my papers and sermons were lost in a flood, in '09.
So you will be mercifully spared the headache.

Yep. Right there next to the part that forbids putting squirrels down your pants for the purposes of gambling.
Well, at least squirrels, like music have accompanied and led to revival...

According to Frank Garlock, this verse condemns syncopation.

Dr Jones, as you may know your father was recently at Dr Garlock's son-in-law's funeral. I'd imagine your dad agrees with him. But seriously, I don't see how he would get that from that verse.
