I'm familiar with Curtis Hutson. Is this person his son? I think I read that. And also, I notice he's referred to as Dr Hutson. Did he earn a Ph.D or was it one of those honorary things like so many of them had?

Yes, this is Curtis' son. I do not believe he has earned a doctorate, but I could be mistaken. He is nothing but a bully.

Nine church splits under his pastorate? That’s insane! I see some definite advantages of churches operating independently, but this is a prime example of why a church falling under the umbrella of an overseeing denomination is warranted.

I wasn’t really trying to start a conversation about the pros and cons of a church belonging to an official denomination versus being independent in nature, but I was just trying to state that some of these “independent” churches lack accountability. I know the pastors usually have an organizational structure in which they’re accountable to the deacon board, but rarely does an independent pastor have a deacon on the board who isn’t towing the pastoral line. Dissenters don’t make it for long. That’s why a guy like Pastor Hutson can survive through numerous church splits and “keep on keeping on.” I’ve seen this play out in person, so I’m not just speculating.
 
Ok, I agree that denominational ecclesiology may add an additional layer of accountability, but Presbyterians and Methodists, etc suffer schisms all the time too. People are people, whatever banner they have flying over their troop, they tend to fracture over some of the stupidest stuff.

I agree, and I’ll also add that it’s very difficult for a denominational church when the organizational hierarchy begins to become unbiblical and corrupt. As an example, one of my good friend’s had a father who was a Methodist minister for the past few decades. When the Methodists began to cave on the gay marriage issue, he decided to retire a couple years earlier than he had planned because he just couldn’t morally support the position the denomination was taking. This cost him a bit financially since he’d planned to minister another one or two years, but fortunately he was within earshot of retiring anyway.
