Why in the world? I thought this was one of Trump's jokes, like annexing Canada. Of what "economic and security interest" is Greenland to the US? Do you realize Denmark is in a border dispute with Canada?

One of my favorite Canadian podcasters has an interesting take on the United States annexing Greenland. He points out the difference between annexing Canada and Greenland.

 
Yeah, yeah, we are going to do the Greenlanders a big favor by forcibly annexing them. Never mind the poll that says 6% of Greenlanders favor joining the USA, 85% opposed. We Americans just love liberating people who do not want to be liberated by us - it worked so well in Viet Nam, Somalia, Iraq, Afghanistan.
 
We are the United States of America and if we want it we will take it because America first.
