1st Grandchild going to VBS... a bit of fear, here

Take them fishing! I thoroughly enjoyed watching my grandkids getting all excited when catching their first fish! Don't miss that!:cool:

But I think you have more important things to worry about than the precise wording they're going to hear, like how you're going to react when they begin to ask questions about baptism.

I'm not worried so much about precise wording, just wanting actual gospel wording.

It ended up being a good week! Some thoughts about life and what happens after struck a strong chord with him.

His dad died when he was 3. So, I am making sure he has a full life of experience and proper understanding of the gospel.

I think it's ok. When they tell you they asked him into their heart, you straighten them out theologically. Starting with election, predestination, double predestination, perseverance and have them memorize the baptist catechism.

I finally got saved hearing an independent fundamental old time baptist preacher. He was preaching on Rock Music, it was either December 1983 or Jan 1984. In the midst of that, he gave the clearest gospel call to faith and repentnace I have probably ever heard. The Spirit of God worked on me and effectually called me.

I wrote to him a few months ago and told him of the effect of that. My daughter is a missionary, oldest was a pastor, now leads worship and teaches SS. third son is preparing to go to the mission field, Second son is attending a solid bible preaching church with his wife. He wrote me back and said he and his pastor were so heartily encouraged by hearing this, since they are in a tiny IFB church in rural PA.

Do you have any experience with AWANA? I created a children's program in the early 1990s based on the Baptist Confession. They were to memorize the confession (worded with 1990s vernacular). Memorized the proofs and were taught, expositionally what each proof meant.

If that is the same Tom williams who was the evanglist out of Kentucky. I believe he went to Heaven this past December. He was 89 years old and was in the miistry over 60 years.

I seem to recall another Pastor Tom Williams from Atlanta I believe.

Yes...it's the evangelist. I heard him preach a few years later, and he was still a very powerful preacher then.

Awana is essentially a catechism and was intended to be taught in the manner that you described. Some do it better than others and not every youth who attends will leave with the solid foundation it was designed to teach.

That said we have three "Timothy" and one "Meritorious" award among our three daughters.

We have a couple of each from our girls as well.
When our grandchildren came along, we no longer had AWANA.
