The Newsboys dropped by record label following Tait revelations
Tait's bandmates where unaware of "Nashville's worst kept secret".www.christiantoday.com
Exactly! What I don’t understand is how a guy can get away with cocaine and predatory behavior and fooling everyone around him for over two decades?!? I mean, he traveled with the guys in the band all over the place—that’s deceit on a whole different level.
I think @Bob Jones VI might have hit the nail on the head with his comment. I hadn’t ever really thought about it like that before.Exactly!
There is something wrong somewhere or else Taitt would never have been able to do that.
What exactly is wrong, I have no idea but the whole Christian celebrity…celebrity Pastor etc. stinks to the high heavens.
Reminds me of a prominent CC pastor who fell... He was a very gifted and charismatic speaker; built up a megachurch. When he fell, he confided to a pastor who was overseeing the situation, "I guess I let the whole celebrity thing get to my head..." To which the other pastor asked him, "Who told you you were a celebrity?"What exactly is wrong, I have no idea but the whole Christian celebrity…celebrity Pastor etc. stinks to the high heavens.
I’m glad you posted this because this is exactly how I’ve felt in recent years but I just haven’t said the quiet part out loud. It often feels like my pastors in the Baptist churches I’ve attended act a bit like important celebrities. Most of my life has been spent in IFB churches (and a couple of SBC) that have run anywhere from 200 - 400 members on a Sunday morning service. Out of my lifetime of attending church, I’ve had only one pastor who seemed humble, but even he ended up showing himself to be arrogant in a stubborn, more quiet manner at retirement (long story for a different time). I’ve often wondered why these guys act the way they do because outside of their Sunday services, they could walk around town and be completely unnoticed and unidentifiable. They are celebrities in their own minds but not in reality. I’ve concluded that in this bubble of the world they exist in, they’re treated as celebrities, and unfortunately, they carry that mindset outside the bubble as well. Since I have little exposure to non Baptist churches, I’ve wondered if it’s just Baptists or not, but I guess it’s others, too.Reminds me of a prominent CC pastor who fell... Unfortunately, it's not high profile leaders who fall; they make the headlines. This sort of thing is endemic amongst the church. Both the famous and the obscure are dropping like flies.
Careful. You'll be accused of victim blaming. What I don’t understand is how a guy can get away with cocaine and predatory behavior and fooling everyone around him for over two decades?!? I mean, he traveled with the guys in the band all over the place—that’s deceit on a whole different level.
I don’t know what you mean.Careful. You'll be accused of victim blaming.
That would only apply if he were a peace loving member of HAMAS.Careful. You'll be accused of victim blaming.
Your question was essentially, How could this go on so long unless someone didn't tell on him?I don’t know what you mean.
Not really, it was more along the lines of being impressed that he could be so skilled in his deceit for such a long period of time without slipping up. Now on the other hand, it does make me wonder if anyone ever had suspicions as well.Your question was essentially, How could this go on so long unless someone didn't tell on him?
Me too! Where is the Body of Christ in all of this? If you are ministers and fellow laborers working together, writing songs together, recording together, touring together, performing together, there should be a closeness of fellowship and accountability one to another. Seems to me as if his bandmates turned a blind eye towards Michael Tate and certainly were not his "Friends!"“…the allegations against Tate had been circulating for decades and were “Nashville’s worst kept secret”, Tait’s former bandmates claim to have been completely unaware of his behaviour.”
Do you believe the band members and administrators were totally in the dark?
I have a hard time believing such.
I kinda like this one:
A Newsboys gem from before the Michael Tait era...
I kinda like this one
It’s hard to believe, unless this guy truly had a PhD in deceit and subterfuge.Do you believe the band members and administrators were totally in the dark?

I only say that because I have known a couple of people who have bared their souls, and they would attest that it gets to one of the more central issues in life, the desire to be applauded, liked, appreciated, praised. Not that those things are in themselves inherently bad. It's ok to want people to like you. But when it becomes the driving force of your life, an idol if you will, it will kill a person's spiritual life. KILL IT.I think @Bob Jones VI might have hit the nail on the head with his comment. I hadn’t ever really thought about it like that before.
