That's it. Thanks for jarring my memory. I just looked him up on the WWW. Apparently, he's still going strong.
A quick story about brother Tim…
Back in that day of the FFF when he participated frequently I was a fairly loyal supporter of most, if not all things Hyles. Of course, Tim Lee was persona non grata with the Hyles crowd because of his “compromise“ via affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention, and such so-called “liberal” drift. However, there was a strong point of alliance that I had with brother Lee, and that was our position against Calvinism.
I went to hear him preach a message at a church about an hour from me, and in that short sermon he preached very evangelistically because, after all, he is called as an evangelist. Many were at the altar call and saved that day, hallelujah!
I really enjoyed the preaching, but as an aside, noted in that sermon how many times he made statements that were contrary to Calvinistic theology, and when I got back home I posted some of those thoughts in a thread where I asked the forum folk to tell me their opinion. In doing so, I conveniently left out the identity of the preacher (bro Tim) who I was posting the quotes from.
Calvinism was one of the hottest topics on the FFF and frequently caused all-out food fights on the forum a daily basis, lol. Quickly after posting his sermon clips, battle lines were drawn, and harsh criticism was offered up. The Calvinists of the forum, several who were prolific posters and friends with brother Lee, quickly retracted, or softened their criticisms out of respect for him once I revealed the source of the quotes.
My point for doing that wasn’t to embarrass anybody, or incite the crowd for entertainment, but to show how harsh and vitriolic our language could be towards our own brethren. It was done in the vein of demonstrating that old axiom “Christians are the only army to shoot their own wounded”. To that end, it succeeded, but it certainly didn’t dramatically change any forum tendencies, unfortunately.
