A person can be Jewish via religion, even though they may not have any ethnic ties. Sammy Davis Jr. is one famous example. On a more personal level, I know a guy who converted from Catholicism to Judaism because his wife’s family wouldn’t give them marriage support otherwise.

Are you saying God is present in the synagogues? That the religion whose central tenet is the rejection of God in Christ has God's approbation? That He somehow holds it in higher regard than Islam or Hinduism?

He meant something specific to Christian theology, which has nothing to do with the common definition of "Jew" as an Israelite or a descendant of them, or a practitioner of Judaism.
Feel free to correct someone of Hebrew descent sometime. But let us know in advance, so we can be there just to watch. Seeing you try to impose a Pauline definition of "Jew" on someone who isn't a Christian should be entertaining.
Even Paul didn't use the term consistently that way.

More accurately, one who is bound to the law, regardless of his devotion. Tradition enjoins any who are born of a Jewish mother, regardless of her genealogy, ethnicity, or nationality, to obey the 613 commandments of the law.
In Judaism, this individual is considered a Jew, even if he is an atheist. There are practicing Jews, and non-practicing Jews, but their identity has nothing to do with genealogy, and everything to do with their relationship to the Torah.
