Up until 1968, one could order shotguns and rifles from Wards or Sears and have them delivered in the mail.
If you went in the store there would be a barrel of used/surplus rifles to rummage through. Sitting right there in the open where anybody, even kids, could pick them up and see how they fit while aiming at random light fixtures. Ah, good memories of shopping with dad and grandpa.

The rabbis say the Star of David isn't the symbol of the Jews or Judaism. It's a Jewish icon Zionists co-opted as a symbol for IsraelTM.

Though not quite that dated, the nuclear installation where I work in my very young days had posters like that all over the place to remind you of the importance of avoiding espionage and speaking of classified information in the presence of crying eyes and desperate ears.
