I purposely did not watch the Super Bowl. I did skim across the "Turning Point" show but the music really wasn't my taste. The last song Kid Rock did was pretty good though.
Two different styles, same exact rhythm and chord progressions. Not much talent required, just lots of practice."All Summer Long". My appreciation there was mostly about how he merged two very distinct styles. Mixing Lynyrd Skynyrd and Warren Zevon was pretty cool.
Didn't say anything about talent. I just liked the merger and how it turned out. Not an idea that I would have come up with. Two different styles, same exact rhythm and chord progressions. Not much talent required, just lots of practice.
All you need to do is listen to Eruption by Eddie Van Halen to hear that.BTW one of the best scenes in "Mr. Hollands Opus" is when he shows the kids how rock and roll was cribbed from Bach.
But if the Turning Point thing was supposed to convert me, well, that was an epic fail. I’m getting old, lol.
Kid Rock played the same Super Bowl halftime show as the infamous Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction," in 2004. He didn't impress me then, and he still doesn't impress me now.
Yeah, I thought that the counter perspective that they were trying to display would be a little more “ wholesome”. Just goes to show you that politics make for strange bed fellows, especially when mingled with Christianity or religion.I checked out the playlist for the Turning Point halftime shindig on February 8, and I was rather underwhelmed. Check out these lyrics for some of the songs that were performed:
"Bawatdaba" by Kid Rock [a "shortened version]"

i haven;t watched any NFL game since 2020.... but I wrote something about it at that time when pro football players were making a show of disrespect by kneeling during the national anthem.... ..it was a long post but i;ll paraphrase the last half of it hereSince the NFL is preaching inclusivity and touting its commitment to diversity, maybe they should reconsider their entire Super Bowl halftime show strategy. Having 90% of your halftime lyrics “sung” en espanol is not diversity—quite the opposite. Maybe they need to start thinking in terms of a country singer, followed by a rapper, followed by Latin singer, etc. Wouldn’t that be true diversity?

You make some valid points. I’ve often thought the same about the NBA, which has gone from over 90% white players in the 1950s to fewer than 20% today. BTW, the WNBA sits at about the same figures.i haven;t watched any NFL game since 2020.... but I wrote something about it at that time when pro football players were making a show of disrespect by kneeling during the national anthem.... ..it was a long post but i;ll paraphrase the last half of it here

>> if the national football league wants to truly show a commitment to inclusivity and diversity then they should agree to completely overhaul the NFL.... and they can start by making the racial and demographic breakdown of it;s players accurately reflect the racial, demographic... and sexual breakdown of all american citizens in the country... ...enforce a kind of affirmative action on the NFL and set quotas for the hiring of each racial group and gender group in accordance to what percentage of americans that racial group or gender represents.....just like what they claim to be supporting in their woke and patheticaly lame halftime shows.... ...
for example..... in order to be fair, woke and appropriately politically correct - fully half the players on the NFL field should be female........ and personally i would like to see a few more hispanic.. middle eastern.. native american and asian americans in the NFL line ups too..... ..not to mention a few more that represent the majority race of what this country actually is... caucasion - (aka white)..... ... . .and while they are at it they should go find a few homeless people from the street.... a prerequisite number of transgender and gay americans..... and even a few illegal immigrants from the fields and put them in an NFL uniform.. ..
put all that on the field and see how many tickets are sold for a regular game - much less the super bowl. .... then when they find themselves playing to empty stadiums let the leftists.... (but especially the pro-football players kneeling during the national anthem).... put that in their pipe and smoke it .... ...i;ll even pack the pipe or roll it into a cigar for them... put it between their teeth, and light it for them too if they like.......
(and yes.... even though i am a non-smoker i do know how to roll cigars..... just one of the many things i have studied on my own and learned how to do during leisure time..... ..of which some people think i have too much of..... )
it was all meant to be tongue in cheek back when i wrote it.... . but back then the NFL was nowhere near as woke or far left as it now.. .... it seems a more serious argument now..... ..... .. . but to be fair i mentioned the NBA too in another post of that same thread.... and mentioned how ironic it was players in the NBA refused to support hong kong protesters when they demonstrated for free speech and civil rights.... but instead bent over backwards for communist china.....You make some valid points. I’ve often thought the same about the NBA, which has gone from over 90% white players in the 1950s to fewer than 20% today. BTW, the WNBA sits at about the same figures.
an even stranger bed fellow is the mixture of christianity and entertainment... and the confusion some have as to when one has been abandoned and the other has taken over.... ..a good example of that is what the modern church service has become..... some are hard to tell from a rock concert.... and that;s not just me - that;s what many members of those churches say........Yeah, I thought that the counter perspective that they were trying to display would be a little more “ wholesome”.
