Jack Hyles died 25 years ago, today.

Call me once brainwashed, but at the time, I didn't give it much thought. I just admired those men and I wanted their signature. I don't know, maybe it was much more strange than I thought at the time.
or - it might not have been as a big a deal as some here - who weren;t even there - are making it out to be.. ... like you and others have said - it was a common thing in fundamental baptist churches back then......

to me it seems like some of the people making big noise about this are trying to compensate for their own unnatural obsessions they still haven;t gotten over..... .. at least you and the others who experienced the era of the bible signing fad can look back now and recognize it for what it was... you admit you might have been brainwashed once... .... ...but they seem to be brainwashed still... and can;t even see it - or deal with it...

And exactly WHO are “the people making noise” and exactly what “unnatural obsessions” are you referring to? Choose YOUR words wisely.

oh lets see..... how about that guy dr huk and his fawning like a little girl over a dead failed president?......... ....he;s made the most noise so far.... didn;t take but a few minutes to come back make noise again...... . and as to obsessions he has been doing that little girl fawning thing over jimmie carter for long time......... right..teejay?.....

by the way... .. as for "unnatural obsessions".... i was actually taking about ekk and his obsessive hatred of jews... much more than i was talking about you.... . but since you wanted to jump in and get defensive over words not entirely meant for you.... so be it....

Who cares if I admire a dead president? How many Trump nuts are out there? Reaganites? What does it matter? I never had him sign my Bible.

Yeah, everyone knows Ekk has some strange obsession with Jews. Haven’t I called him out on it many times? But Ekk wasn’t part of this thread and never commented on the autograph fad. That was only me, plus a couple people who said they did it themselves and now think it was silly or probably not a good idea. Ekk only commented regarding your “choose your words wisely” comment.

ekk commented on a post justice1976 made as well... a post justice made to me - not him..... ...and the post justice made specifically concerned the autograph fad.... so ekk did make himself a part of it with more than one post... .... ... but apparently chiming in on posts not directed at them is a thing only a few of us get called out for... ;)....

others also chimed in by posting support for your school girls and back streets boys comment... .....even in church an amen is noted as part of the noise... in fact in baptist churches sometimes the amens are bigger noise than the noise the preachers make.... ...right?.......... i only attended one service one time in a baptist church so i am speaking from limited experience - but i was told about it from those who grew up in it.......

If he did comment on that, then I stand corrected and apologize. I missed it.

Yes, but I’m not sure where this is going. I grew up in Baptist church in the South with all manners of shouting and occasionally running around and theatrics. I don’t know how this is related….

just pointing out that it;s all part of the bigger picture... and the greater noise.... . ..which has it;s effects on all of us.... .depending on who our family members are and what they went through as a result of hyles.. - it can cause some of us to take issues and comments regarding this topic much more personally that others..... ......

....i have to go for now....big plans today.... . but i will be back later

I've moved and finally got my cable on. I'm updating ... I went to hac in 1975-1976 school year. I met my husband and I never graduated . I'm not bitter or hate the place but they never lived what they preached. I would never go back...my husband worked on security for 8 years. We left in August 1983 and south Florida has been my home. My husband passed away 3 years ago. We were married 45 years and he was the best! Now its my dog Lucy and I .........

I had a preacher sign my Bible one time. It wasn’t in the vein of a fawning pre-teen at a boy band concert, but rather a token of respect and admiration/honor. I’m sure there were plenty of impressionable preacher boys who contributed to the atmosphere of near idolatrous doting on the mannagawd in HAC and clone churches that promoted mindless lemming-like followship. The two scenarios aren’t mutually exclusive.

OK, I get it. You’re pointing out that the autographs were part of the culture back then. Again, obviously my comment was not aimed directly at you or your dad (because my comment came prior to your announcement), but it just so happened your dad participated in this autograph fad many years ago, hence your emotional response with posts that, unlike mine, were more personal in nature.

So now that I believe we’ve correctly summed up everything, let’s move on. I’m not interested in any further justification posts from you, “suggestions,” or anything else. Have your fun arguing with @Ekklesian and @subllibrm. I’m not going to play ball with you.

really?..... is that a promise teejay?......

and here i thought you might be able to understand that people who survived the kind of cult hyles and his kind operated - (which went way beyond merely getting autographs - and actually left death and destruction of families in it;s wake) - only to emerge with their faith intact and an understanding that could benefit all of us... deserved a little more respect than what your juvenile comments showed them...... .... but i guess i was wrong.......

well.. .. run along then.... .

but i have a feeling it won;t be long before i say something else that pinches your tail.... it won;t be on purpose... probably won;t even be said to you.. ...but it will bring you galloping back into the argument again - braying like the ignorant little jack donkey you are...... so until then... ...

What a dove.

Fair enough, but would you still do that today?

my dad and his family knew jack hyles and the whole hyles family from the 1950s when jack still pastored the church he started in texas.... miller road baptist.... and he even attended hyles anderson college in the mid to late 1970s...... he was also a member of miller road baptist himself with his wife and young children in the early 1980s ... .when hyles pushed his corrupt and immoral son on the church to get him out of hammond....:cautious:

he says like many others... it took him a while to see the truth of what hyles was really like - but after the miller road scandal in the early 1980s - which destroyed my dads family... he called both father and son a pair of shameless exhibitionists.... control freaks obsessed with power - who served themselves while pretending to be servants of God.....

now.. also like many others have said... he wants nothing to do with anything related to IFB ... and with him - even nothing to do with baptists in general.... .he says their churches are becoming geared too much towards entertainment and showmanship - rather than stewardship - service - and worship of God....

but... he does still have his old scofield bible with dozens of signatures of fundamentalist preachers....... even the signatures of both hyles....:sneaky:
I believe every word your dad said is truth. I hope he's doing well.
