Rory’s Feast

Gator is probably to Florida what elk is to Idaho.
I’ve seen frozen boxes of elk meat in the “exotics” freezer at my local deli, but I’ve never seen it featured in restaurants. Gator meat is also in the exotics freezer, but the difference is it’s featured in some local restaurants on the menu (normally as an appetizer).

It's very rare to find elk meat for sale. Unless you hunt it yourself or do a huge favor for someone who does, it's highly unlikely you're going to get any. The only restaurant I have seen serve elk was one in West Yellowstone MT.

You might find some elk jerky in a tourist trap kind of place but it's going expensive and you shouldn't judge all elk meat by how it tastes. Elk jerky made by hunters for their families is amazing stuff.

we brought back a large cooler of elk from our bowhunting trip in washington state years ago..... ..it was frozen and packed in dry ice.....and it was awesome... 😋...... almost as good as the fresh elk steaks we had the same night we killed one on the hunt... that meat hardly had a chance to get cold before we cooked and ate it.....

but if i rmember right we were told the elk we shot could not be sold as it was a game animal hunted and tagged - not farm raised or usda inspected..... but we did give away a lot of it to friends.. ..... (some of them had come back from alaska a year before and given us several sides of salmon they had caught on one of their fishing trips)...

Nothing better than fresh salmon caught up in the cold waters off Alaska. Been there, done that.
