Iran, the next war.

How do you determine what should be considered “a trusted source” or not, particularly since you even mentioned biblical teachings?
I think that is the question.
Biblical principles should obviously guide us but the loons have taken over the interweb.

Fox News was sued for defamation. They lied about a company and there machines being involved and rigging the 2020 election. Therefore, Fox News lied I will never trust them again.

CNN has been sued for defamation as well. Therefore, I will never trust CNN.

Honestly, is hard to know what to believe these days when it comes to the news.

Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar. Until they are proven to lie I will continue to listen to them. They both previously worked for big news companies and has talked about how they were basically encouraged to report on news in a certain way.

I will say the US government hasn’t put out any documentation to verify this so it all could be a conspiracy.

I also listen to Dave Smith. I also listen to Nick Fuentes. He has been accused of being gay and a Nazi. The US government hasn’t put out any documentation to verify this so until then I’m sure that’s a conspiracy as well.

I am the final authority on who I trust. You trust whomever you want.
When we first started this, the question was a what, not a who. IOW, you referenced political and religious matters, with you being the final authority. You probably think I’m picking a fight, but that’s not my intention. I’d like to flesh this out because I think it’s important from an epistemological standpoint, at least I think it is.

All that being said, if you are the final arbiter of all things political and religious, how did you formulate your foundation, and how do you know your foundation is solid versus any other person you interact with online or in life?

I am the final arbiter of what I deem trustworthy and whether I will rely on what is being said and whether I am going to spend my time gathering further information from that source.

I take into consideration many factors. For example, I don't tend to trust sources that are overly verbose. How quickly does the provider of information get to be chase? My attention span is normally very limited and if I don't detect relevance or see a resolve very soon, I move on. I could never make a living out of reading legal documents.

I look at a source's reputation and it's associations. The old adage of being able to tell a lot about someone by the company they keep...

I look at a source's source...

I try to trace out whatever logic is being used...

This is an overly simplistic run down of the process I use to determine how worthy something is of my attention since there is usually so little of it available.

“associations” is a huge major factor for me.

Follow the money. News corporations, politicians be it Fox News, CNN, JD Vance, Little Marco, Ted Cruz, Palantir, Peter Thiel, Alex Karp.

Whatever news source it is watch their commercials and listen to if they ever report negative news about them. Obviously they won’t report negative news about the pharmaceutical industry. Anyway things like this is what interest me about the news and political figures.

At the end of the day, regardless of the political leanings of networks, they are businesses, and businesses are about one thing: making money. They make their money through companies advertising, and companies won’t pay the big bucks if viewership is low. I think the news of the 21st century should just be considered entertainment. Even your YouTube channels make their money from content that creates clicks and subscriptions to the channel. However, despite all of that, if there’s a big news event, I’ll sometimes flip from listening to FOX to CNN just to get a sense of the two sides.

I don’t think you said anything here I’d disagree with, but again, going back to your original comment, how do you reconcile the “biblical teachings” into that view?
Whether news or biblical teachings, until I hear from a trusted source, I take everything I hear with a grain of salt.
If you were Catholic, you’d probably look to a combination of the Bible and the Pope as the final authority (or arbiter). I think many IFB folks also have a “Catholic tendency” to do the same with their local “Jack Hyles” in their pulpit. How do you determine “a trusted source” of Biblical teachings?

I agree with everything you said here.

I run biblical teachings through the same filter as news and commentary. The notable distinction being I use my knowledge of the scriptures to evaluate sources of teaching that purport to be biblical.
