Somebody tell me, how does this happen??

On Saturday I checked my mailbox and found the attached promotional flyer.

According to Google, my mailbox is situated 640 miles from Hyles Anderson College, where I graduated in 1981. I have only visited the campus one time since then, 25 years ago. I have had no communication with anyone from the college or church since. I may have given my contact information to a nice guy, named Marshall in 2001, but I'm not even sure of that. And yet after all of this time and distance, I received this, addressed to me at my current address, even though I have moved several times since 2001.

I'm not complaining. I do recall getting some other promotional flyers in the past, but I couldn't provide details. However, after all of this time, I'm still surprised (and even impressed a little) that they could find me. I'm not sure they would be very proud to call me a graduate but I don't know if I'm proud to call myself an alumnus, so maybe we're even.

I hope they have a good conference. Maybe I should let someone know I won't be coming!

If you were once in the Jerico Plan and did not graduate you would get more correspondence,

weren;t you here for the good old days..... when every thread degraded into an argument about calvinism?........ even a thread about favorite donuts could morph into an argument over predestination vrs freewill.... ..... as irritating as that was it was actually preferable to the 2 different directions they get redirected to now by the obsessive deranged...

on a subject related to the OP - i still get emails from the university of hawaii with information about new classes being offered.... and also flyers in the mail from groups associated with the college about verious subects... ... one recently was even about a pick up rugby game some former students planned to have in a local park...... it was a co-ed game... guys and girls on mixed teams ......i went to watch but i didn;t step up to play for a team...🏉... they would have picked me last anyway...

Everyone with any sense knows Krispy Kreme have the best donuts hands down!! 😁

no way... there is nothing better than duncan donuts..... specifically the chocolate filled pillow soft donuts
- covered in powered sugar.... 😋.... they are an inspiration... .. it was decreed from the beginning of time
that these duncan donuts would be my favorite.... and that i should go home covered in powered sugar
after eating a whole box of them..... .
:D

They aren't bad for a national chain; neither is Dunkin Donuts... I like their coffee...

BUT no one and I mean no one beats a good mom and pop shop that has been in business for the last 60-70 years or better. Sadly, they are few and far between. There is one in Long Beach WA and we're going there later this month. Their apple fritters are perfect. Their old fashioned buttermilk bars are heavenly. They open at 0430 and their stuff is fresh and warm. I'm dreaming about going there soon!

Now apparently they devolve into an argument about coffee brands. :)

I used to live practically across the street from a Dunkin Donuts, which had a pretty big presence in Canada until they pulled out in the early 2000s. Apparently they're coming back. Feh. I didn't like their coffee, and if I really wanted to go out of my way to buy something I could make myself just as well and for pennies, there was a Tim Hortons just another block down the road.

These days? A plague on both their houses. Tims started roasting coffee in-house a few years back and it's not the same. McDonald's, on the other hand, outsources their blend from the same place Tim's used to. But of course I don't live too near any of them anymore.

Agreed, so I will tell the story on the forum once again about the original OG Crispie Cream from my hometown and a nearby town, (not the Krispy Kream one, it came later) Here

they do move around a lot..... years ago there was one close to where we lived... within walking distance.... . it moved twice a couple of years after opening - but always stayed close.... then vanished for a while.. .:cautious:.. .... i was pretty mad at them too .... . and then they opened the one by the airport not long after 9/11 - and it has lasted.... it might have something to do with being so close to the airport and having good visibility.. .... i know people who travel a lot by air and leave their cars at the airport while they are gone.... duncan donuts is always the first stop after coming back in.... .....

it;s been a while since i made the full 114 miles on a long bike ride and stopped there close to the end.... ..... for us nowdays it;s mostly part of a pass time of sitting out by the reef runway... eating donuts.. and watching planes come and go... especially during rimpac and special air exercises when military jets from all over the world come in...... not as healthy as rewarding myself with donuts after a long bicycle trek...and i end up eating a lot more of them just sitting there .... .. but somehow i can;t make myself feel guilty about it.... ;)

before national chains like duncan showed up.... the only places here for donuts were mom and pop shops.... the most popular of which was... and still is... leonards bakery.. . . they specialize in portugese style malasadas... .. which are nothing really but a lump of sweetened bread rolled in plain sugar.. ...i can eat them if i am hungry but was never a huge fan of them...... but many people here love them and line up for them every morning........

a few of the people in my sunday school class swear by leonards malasadas and that;s all they bring on the days it;s their turn to bring the snacks.......... .liliha bakery is another one and they specialize in cocopuffs... .. not as tasty in my opinion as the name implies.... but they have a huge loyal following too.... .

i always bring duncan donuts in a wide variety... multiple kinds.. when it;s my turn to bring them........ . .... but none of us bring coffee...... our sunday school teacher handles the coffee and it;s always lions ......... she keeps a good supply of it stored right there in the class... . and she has retaurant quality coffee makers to brew it with... .. ... nobody complains.. ... she does it really well.. .....:coffee::giggle:

A quick search for malasadas near me unsurprisingly shows that mainland Midwest states have zero awareness of Hawaiian culinary traditions 😁. Probably best considering my type 2 diabetes anyway 🤷

the picture of the donuts in the article you posted from the original crispy creme definitely looks like diabetes in a box.... it raises blood sugar just looking at it...o_O...

and i know what you mean about mainland awareness of hawaiian cuisine... ...on a visit to san fran years ago someone told me oakland had a few hawaiian restaurants called L&L barbecue - opened by hawaiians who had moved there... ... . but even they had it wrong... i tried one of my favorite dishes from L&L ... the kalua pork n cabbage - only to be disappointed in ways i cannot describe....

i guess it;s one of those things that has to be experienced in the proper suroundings.... . i spent the rest of that trip eating at in n out burger... .. perfect when partaken of in california - but which i am beginning to realize might be ruined if they ever tried to bring it to hawaii..... ..

I hear ya. For many years, California was the only state where you could find In-N-Out. In the past two years, Mrs. abcaines and I have partaken of In-N-Out in Dallas TX and Nampa ID. At first, it was a novelty but now, it's kinda wearing off. That burger chain now serves as a a connection to the California that many folks have escaped. I mean, I get it... but if you're going to leave California, LEAVE California. I'd hate to see In-N-Out become a national chain... Quality usually degrades when that happens.

this picture is from the in-n-out in oakland ca on the road to the oakland airport... .. right next door to
a huge walmart and on the other side of the highway from oakland raider football stadium......... it;s
the same one we always went to any time we were in oakland or alameda.... .. it did a lot of business
but recently closed permanently due to increasing violent crime in the area.... ...when this picture was
taken they had already permamently shut down their drive through.....
