Pastor Spell says neighbor threatened his faith, flock, and family
Pastor Spell went straight from prison to the pulpit after his arrest.
I agree with you as far as to what is the correct way to react in this situation. The pastor was told, “Tony, I’m going to rape your wife, I’m going to rape all of your grandchildren, and the next time you go out of town, I’m going to kill them and what the f### are you going to do about it?” The pastor says his congregation has been constantly stalked and threatened with bodily harm, with members being called the N word and their children shouted at with vulgarities. Supposedly the police were helpless to remedy the situation. I know many preachers lie about many things but supposedly he has many church member who will back up his statements. Here are some Bible verses that deal with how we handle questionable situations.Given some jurisdiction's propensity to prosecute terroristic threats, Pastor Spell had definite standing to have his neighbor prosecuted if his allegations are true. However, in these cases, law enforcement is notoriously inconsistent in pursuing such threats. Did he have a reasonable suspicion that his life, family or congregation was in danger? Did he have reasonable assurance of protection from these threats? Did he attempt to invoke these protections? I haven't seen any solid answers to these questions.
The qualifications for a pastor/elder in 1Timothy state that one is not to be a striker; one who settles things with his fists. HOWEVER, there is a principal that a man is to protect his family/congrats... Did he operate within his proper authority? Could he have handled things better? I'm thinking it's likely he could have but I'm in no position to judge.
At the Caines household, I'd introduce such an invader to my friend, Maggie. If an intruder shows up at your home and threatens to rape and kill your family would you stand by and take no action? The question is how far is too far when dealing with someone threatening to kill your loved ones in the most vicious way? Here is his full press conference with his lawyer.
As George Christie, a one time Hells Angel observed: "It's a mighty thin slice of ham that doesn't have two sides."Pastor Spell is Oneness Pentecostal (anti-Trinitarian) and is admired by some, hated by others, for keeping his church open during the COVID epidemic. I hope the police and judicial authorities can sort out the various allegations and that justice will be done. This is going to be a big controversy, as indicated by the comments at the bottom of the Julie Roys report. Pastor Spell was put in a very difficult situation by his neighbor and I don't wish to judge him harshly, but 35 punches, even on an obnoxious jerk, who does not appear to have physically attacked him first, would not appear to be justifiable from a legal or Scriptural point of view, nor a very good testimony for the faith.
