It's just the druidic holiday of Samhain repackaged.

You can't baptize a pagan festival and call it Christian.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a Harvest Festival to get to.

we are leaving in about an hour to go to the halloween block party in waikiki.... and due to us all making a late decision to attend it i;m going as a cave girl this year - one of the easier costumes to pull off... ..... .

the halloween block party actually extends for multiple blocks through the whole length of waikiki down 2 parallel streets.. (kalakaua and kuhio) .... and it;s always a much wilder event when halloween falls on a weekend..... ..

but at least it;s not a full moon this year... ..... i was there the last time that happened... 🌝..... .my dad was still working and as usual had volunteered to do a double shift in waikiki that night.. .... . i will never forget it..... 😳

I used to get into Halloween but a bit over twenty years ago, I completely lost interest in it. I mean completely. Not saying I don't acknowledge it; this year, for the first time in well over a decade, I dressed up as a hillbilly at work and then today, I bought candy for trick or treaters that never showed up. Oh well... I now have a small bag of miniature Kit Kats to nibble on. They're great with milk. I'm looking forward to to the next couple days as ugly Halloween yard ornaments get taken down.

All our children are older now. When they were young children we brought them trick or treating every year. We heard sermons every year on how we shouldn’t bring them.

When our first child turned 2 my wife was very apprehensive about going. I explained to her that it was harmless. I told her, let’s go this one time. If you see anything that makes you feel uneasy we can stop and go home and we won’t go again. Well, needless to say it was harmless.

She was raised in a very very strict IFB home and didn’t dare do anything with Halloween. After going we had long discussions about how she never knew how harmless it was.

we actually had a lot of fun last night... . though the atmosphere was a lot more subdued than any of us expected.... ... ...we almost didn;t go due to violence that occured in the recent past on halloween ....and which had been increasing over the past 3 years.. .....

but the mayor made a determined effort to make halloween safer this year - and police fire and ems were out in force.... ......the crowds were huge... . but most of them appeared to be tourists not even aware of waikikis halloween tradition - and who were not in any kind of costume but had a good time anyway....

it was hot before the sun set... . but then it rained a few times and that made it cooler... .. even enjoyable...🎃 ...

I'm also looking forward to campaign signs being taken down after Tuesday.
that;s one good thing about living in hawaii...... no campaign signs cluttering up the road sides..... ...... a candidate running for office can make campaign signs. ...they can even display them.... .. but they have to be held in hand by either the candidates themselves - or their campaign workers while they stand beside the road and wave.... ..the signs cannot be staked into the ground or nailed to posts.... someone must be holding them at all times - and when the person campaigning leaves - the signs must leave with them.....

in addition to it cutting down on pollution there is another benefit to this law... ... when you see a campaign sign being waved from beside the road - chances are that;s the actual candidate running for office standing there waving it.. .... . so not only do you see the name of the person - but also the genuine article and can judge for yourself if that person looks up to the task.... or if he just looks like another politcal science major seeking a paycheck........

it;s also your opportunity to stop and talk to them - ask them questions if you would like too.. ... .. and they will pay attention and talk to you. .. in this age of cell phone cameras and youtube they would be foolish not to.....
