So close your eyes and tell me.......

^ Oh my word - YES!!!  I remember us trying to get around in the dark auditorium while wearing long, full dresses & bonnets.

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

Raider, what is it about this one particular issue that you feel puts it above question & disagreement?  It's not mentioned in the Bible nearly as much as other doctrines & beliefs that Christians disagree on.  What is it about homosexuality that makes it "not even a gray area" - especially if...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

Actually, I find a lot of stuff said in this thread highly offensive but that has no bearing on how confident I am in my beliefs.  It also doesn't justify me being snarky or disrespectful, hence, my earlier apology.  :)

Giving up.  :)  I understand your beliefs, I honestly do - I was raised with them myself.  I just came to believe differently.  I thought maybe there was something you were taught as "Biblical truth" at one point but eventually came to view differently.  I see I was wrong.  I surrender!  :D

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

I understand that you can't see any difference in the conflict that comes from being a gay Christian & feeling bad for stealing a pack of gum from Walmart.  May your live always be so blessed.

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

I'm trying to understand this.  As a pre-teen, you were equally attracted to - and experimented with - both genders, but based on those experiences, you simply decided to be straight?    I don't deny pride and stubbornness, but I don't believe that sexual orientation is nothing more than a...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

Now, I believe, YOU are the one being intellectually dishonest. I think we both know that you won't entertain any other interpretation than what you've already embraced, so why ask for mine?  Can I also assume, then, that you agree with the strict IFBx Biblically supported teachings?  It's fine...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

I'm  not being dishonest or ridiculous - it's a simple and sincere question.  When, exactly, did you choose to be heterosexual?  What made you choose?  What options did you consider?  How did you know which you wanted?  Why can't you turn it off and on?  Why do you think these are silly...

Thank you, SC.    Along with all the condemnation and arrogance, we've found grace in some very unexpected places.  Thanks for making the FFF one  of them.  :D

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

Do you wake up each morning and choose whether today you will be homosexual or hetero?  If that's the case, I beg you to choose, just for one day, to be gay.  You don't have to act on it, but just BE it and let your fellow Christians know what it's like.  I suspect you'll feel the same pain...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

I accept that there are other interpretations of Paul's message, and believe that the application of it as anti-gay is incorrect.  I know that answer isn't sufficient for most Baptists/Christians, but is it any different than coming to the conclusion that Deut. 22:5 doesn't mean women wearing...

It is heartbreaking in many ways.  But I appreciate the honesty & compassion shown in your admission that you don't know what you would do.

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

As I said earlier, I did NOT change my point of view because of my daughter.  I don't expect anyone else to, and I have no desire to challenge your assurance that your Biblical knowledge is superior to those who are more accepting & understanding.  And yes, my daughter chose to marry the...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

No different that any other "conviction", in my opinion, except that most people never have to face this one and really examine it for themselves.  We all enter the adult world having to make our own decisions about things we were always taught were unquestionably right or wrong:  women wearing...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

Yes.  My beliefs on homosexuality changed decades ago,  as did my beliefs on a lot of things I was taught were "sin" growing up at FBC.  When my daughter told me she was gay, the whole issue just became a lot more important and personal to me, and I've become more outspoken about what I already...

Reactions to Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage

My reaction is... if it had happened a month earlier, my daughter would not have had to move to another state to get married.  I'm glad parents will no longer see their children treated as second class citizens by the state (sadly, they will still be treated as such by family, friends and...

BUT IT IS LEGAL IN 38 STATES!!

The court shouldn't.  But part of what I took from this thread is that making a legal argument for a reduced sentence (in this case, claiming "it is legal in 38 states") is making light of the sin committed.  Doesn't seem too far of a jump, then, to think that the more seriously you take the...

BUT IT IS LEGAL IN 38 STATES!!

Is acceptance of the maximum prison sentence necessary if the convict is a Christian?  If it was you, would you never fight for a lighter sentence for yourself or your loved one because that would be making light of the sin committed?  Would you encourage a family member to demand the maximum...
