Not arguing anything you've said. But as I'm sure you're aware, churches and parachurch organizations are notorious for being cheap with pay and benefits, admonishing workers that this is their ministry.
I run biblical teachings through the same filter as news and commentary. The notable distinction being I use my knowledge of the scriptures to evaluate sources of teaching that purport to be biblical.
I am the final arbiter of what I deem trustworthy and whether I will rely on what is being said and whether I am going to spend my time gathering further information from that source.
I take into consideration many factors. For example, I don't tend to trust sources that are overly verbose...

"Hijack" for those who keep turning the argument back to their pet obsession.

Whether news or biblical teachings, until I hear from a trusted source, I take everything I hear with a grain of salt.
There are few sources I trust anymore. Even supposedly "balanced" sources such as FOX, are taken with a grain of salt. And "Christian" sources? Puh-lease!
